💚Mental health awareness Month 💚 May is almost over — but the conversation shouldn't be. Mental Health Awareness Month wraps up this week, and while the green ribbons and awareness posts may fade from your feed, the need for open, honest conversations about mental health doesn't go away on June 1st.

This month was a reminder — not a finish line. Checking in on a friend, setting a boundary, going to therapy, resting without guilt: those things matter every single month.

One thing you can do right now

Reach out to someone you haven't heard from in a while. A simple "hey, thinking of you" can mean more than you know.

Thank you to everyone who shared their story, checked in on someone, or simply decided to keep going this month. That takes courage — every single time.

💚Mental health 💚touches every one of us, either directly or through someone we love. That is why these conversations matter so deeply. When we talk about mental health with care, honesty, and compassion, we help create more understanding, more connection, and more space for healing.

No one should feel ashamed for struggling. Mental health challenges are part of the human experience, and support can make a meaningful difference. Let’s continue to break stigma, speak with kindness, and remind others that they are not alone.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s commit to having conversations that are thoughtful, supportive, and real. The more we talk about mental health, the more we help others feel seen, heard, and valued.

TRIGGER WARNING: Father Abandonment / Attachment Wounds

One of the most powerful scenes ever on TV is from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — the moment Will’s father leaves again.

This scene hits so deeply because it shows what abandonment can feel like when a child is still waiting to be chosen, still hoping for an explanation, still wondering, “Why wasn’t I enough?”

Father abandonment does not just hurt in the moment. It can shape how a person attaches, trusts, loves, protects themselves, and sometimes even how they see their own worth.

For many people, the wound is not just that someone left.
It is the emotional message the child carried afterward:
“I was not worth staying for.”

But healing begins when we learn this truth:

A parent’s absence is not proof of a child’s unworthiness.

You can grieve what you did not receive.
You can name the pain.
You can honor the younger version of you who needed consistency, protection, and love.
And you can still build secure, healthy connections today.

Sometimes healing means realizing the wound was real — but it does not get to define the rest of your story.

The scene is from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Season 4 episode “Papa’s Got a Brand New Excuse,” where Will’s father returns after years away and then leaves again.

💚May Mental health Awareness 💚
Men were never taught that it is safe to say, “I’m sad,” “I’m overwhelmed,” “I’m scared,” or “I need help.”

Instead, they are often taught to be strong, stay quiet, tough it out, or not show weakness. Over time, those unspoken emotions can come out as anger, irritability, shutting down, risky choices, loneliness, or feeling disconnected from others.

As a Tx-therapist, I believe we have to change the message. Emotional expression is not weakness. Asking for help is not failure. Teaching boys and young men how to name their feelings, regulate their emotions, and talk about what they are carrying can help prevent deeper anxiety, depression, isolation, and shame.
We need to create spaces where boys and men can be heard without judgment and supported without being told to “just get over it.”

Mental health matters for boys and men too. Strength also looks like healing.

A new report from The Jed Foundation (JED) examines the mental health challenges facing boys and young men.

💚Therapist life: 💚professional on the screen with a hint of silky pajama comfort.😄

This picture captures the real behind-the-scenes of working from home as a therapist. Some days include a quiet office, no makeup, a warm cup nearby, pets watching over us from the wall, and the comfort of pajamas while still showing up fully present for clients.

Therapists are human too. We balance paperwork, our own healing journey❤️‍🩹, telehealth sessions, trainings, family, and life—while creating a safe space for others to feel heard and supported.

Working from home some days and evenings, may look cozy, but the heart of the work stays the same: compassion, presence, and care.

A therapist will meet you wherever you are in your life—whether you are just trying to get through the day, healing from the past, navigating change, or learning how to feel like yourself again.

Because healing can happen from an office, a couch, a quiet room, or sometimes… even in pajamas. 💛

💚Healing does not have to happen alone. 💚
Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that support is out there, and Lucid Counseling is just one of many places standing with individuals, families, and communities as they navigate life’s difficult seasons.

Reaching out for help is not weakness. It is courage. It is self-awareness. It is choosing to take one step toward healing, hope, and wholeness.

Let’s continue to talk about mental health, support one another, and stop the stigma.
You are seen.
You are heard.
You are not alone.
