Lately I’ve talked to so many people who are caregivers, mostly of elderly parents, who are so exhausted! They have been placed with this responsibility and want to be there for their family member(s), but they have neglected themselves in the process. I’ve had long conversations with these women reminding them to take care of themselves first, to carve out time to go for a walk, be in nature, or just take a break. When you are constantly running on empty, it becomes so hard to pour into others from a place of love, patience and presence.

It’s also really important to ask for help! Taking care of elderly parents is not easy, and it’s not meant to be done alone. It’s a shared responsibility.

I observed some of these women releasing a lot during my last Breathwork session, and they looked so relaxed afterwards, they could have probably fallen asleep on the lawn!

If you have a family member or a friend who is struggling, PLEASE offer support and help.

Stop trying to think positive when your body is stressed—it doesn’t work.

If you’re in fight-or-flight, your brain is in survival mode. It’s not built for creativity, joy, or clear thinking in that state.

So when you force positive thoughts? You’re fighting your biology.

Becoming aware of how you’re feeling and why, is key! When you are able to silence the noise on the outside and focus inward, you begin to notice what your current state is, and the reason why. By bringing your attention to your breath, you can consciously slow down your breathing and calm your nervous system. You begin to feel safe, relaxed and switch to a parasympathetic state. Now you begin to observe your thoughts and shift to a more positive mindset.

Because the moment your nervous system feels safe, everything changes. Your thoughts get clearer. Your energy shifts. You feel like yourself again.

By practicing regular Breathwork, I am more in tune with my body and mind. I notice when my energy is off, when my nervous system is dysregulated. I don’t make decisions or try to get creative when I’m feeling this way. It will lead to frustration. So I go inward, practice my rhythmic breathing, and once I begin to feel calmer, I am able to think clearly.

If you’re an empath, perhaps this relatable.

💫Do you make yourself available to listen to others?
💫Do you check in on others?
💫Do you feel emotional energy deeply?
💫Do you put your needs aside to be there for others?
💫 Do you feel emotionally drained?

It’s time to take care of YOU! You are allowed to take a step back and say this is not a good time. You SHOULD set better boundaries and protect your energy. You SHOULD make sure you’re ok first.

If you have someone in your life who has consistently checked in you, been there for you, don’t take them for granted! Just because they make time to listen to you doesn’t mean their life is easy or they’re not going through something. So check in on them and really listen. Show them you care for them too. 🫶
