Chapter 33 (4-16-25)

As I reflect on the past year, seemed like a lot of things went left. The passing of my uncle, me blowing out my knee, feeling alone through this journey of life as a man and business man. Feeling pressure on my shoulder….someone who doesn’t ask for anything just puts his head down & just locks on what I got to do…

I say all that to say, I remain to keep my head high.
I’m blessed to have friend & loved ones in my life that can guide be me wisdom & help me through the tough times.
I still smile through the tough times, finding the silver linings and building off that.

Not making this a sob story but makes me think about the direction I want my life to go and not look so far down the line, being where my feet are and building day by day.

As I look up into the night sky & being under the stars I know that god also got my back although me him ain’t as tight lol but I know there is reason why I’m on this journey & taking more of an AUTHENTIC approach to things…

Feels good to be back in the gym on a somewhat regular basis.

I’m in a place where this whole process could have completely took me elsewhere where mentally but have stayed strong throughout this journey.

A lot of people are tied to just the results of what they’re doing vs looking at the journey and finding small wins each day that eventually lead them towards the result and possibly more!

I get caught up every now and again of not looking at the small wins because I’ve been climbing up hill. One thing I will say I’m doing better at celebrating my process than overlooking them.

Find joy in the process as it will keep you going further than you thought it would!

I promise you it’s a constant battle everyday with yourself.
Growth is an on going thing, but in order to grow you have to get uncomfortable & be in positions that force you to grow.
Each and every day it’s about personal development, even as a trainer I’m looking for way on how I can be better for my clients and then how I can be better for myself as a business man & as a person.

Trust me everyday isn’t sunshine & rainbows but through it all I keep pushing forward. Unexpected things happen in life that show a way or forcefully show you a way.

One thing that I will say is continue to push through the tough times. People might not understand you, people might see your point of view or vision or whatever it is. KEEP GOING. Growth doesn’t stop at what people say or even what they do.
Life will even try to stop you at times but you gotta keep goin, keep watering yourself to make sure you grow…

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Trevor Roberts. Born and raised in Bronx, NY now currently in Delaware. Before getting into Personal Training, I had a dream of going into the NBA. Trained hard & worked hard which carries over into my current career path & everyday life with me. I didn’t take the traditional route, I didn’t play in college. I took the NBA G-league route. Paid tryouts going against overseas players, college players, players trying to get back into the league etc etc. very close in making it but ultimately didn’t happen.

Pivoting from that to then moving & to then trying to figure out life after some real life situations. I always knew I wanted to work with athletes. Giving my very limited knowledge at the time of what training did for me when it came to the weight room and working on mechanics of jumping and running.
I became certified in 2019 receiving my personal training & nutrition certification, then my S&C certification & haven’t looked back since. Started my brand/business right before the Pandemic hit in February 2020.

As a trainer I hold all my clients accountable, no excuses, put the work in, work hard and train hard. Now that’s not to say that I don’t have fun with my clients or everything is very serious BUT when it comes to training to reach a goal I take that very serious and expect my clients to be serious about it as well. I’ve trained basketball, football, baseball athletes. Even former athletes looking to get back active & live healthier.

6 years of experience in training & almost 2 years in the strength & conditioning field. I help athletes perform better in their sport by getting them to move more efficiently, get stronger & more explosive, have more power & to have less injuries throughout their playing career.

A small look back at the year in a nut shell.

Plenty of downs but just enough ups to keep me sane, all in the last 3-4month something has happened that knocked me down & kept me on the mat for some time. I’m a VERY private person I deal with things internally, I go through the emotion, analyze, then work on solving it. I’m learning to open up and share my story more but also working in trying to not to hold a lot in. Those closest to me on a daily know how I do & they can’t stand it 😅lol

I’m a work in progress lol. Just like everyone else…

Everything ranging from tearing my ACL/Meniscus (having surgery in January), my uncle passing, trying to grow out my business as a one man band, to feeling like I’m taking 2 steps forward then something happens and I’m taking 6 backwards. These last 3-4months have really sat me down & forced me to slow down, not sure as to why, maybe more patience? Maybe more learning/studying? Maybe to really look deeper in my life? Who knows…maybe all the above…
It’s been a mental warfare this year as a whole BUT there have been many bright spots & I’m grateful for them.

This coming year, in 2025 it’s going to be a slow & daunting journey/process because of my surgery but I’m looking forward to getting it done. Going through that journey & work twice as hard to get back to me. Going to take the time to work on a few things, change my habits around & really mentally (not just physically) hit another level.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out I appreciate y’all more than you know.

These 5 key will help you maximize your recovery as an athlete or not.

You always want to make sure your body is well taken care of after a long day & workout. The only way you will see improvement is if your take care of yourself properly.

1. HYDRATION: when you workout you lose fluid, to properly replenish you want to make sure you are drink water through out the day. Helps prevent muscle cramping, temperature regulation & energy conservation. Along with waste removal.

2. NUTRITION: You want to make sure you are properly refueling your body. Your body is made up water and protein. Also want to make sure you have a well balanced meal if protein, carbs, veggies & healthy fats. Your muscles need to repair & come back stronger!

3. SLEEP:The magic all comes together when you are able to get plenty of rest. It allow the muscles to recover and get stronger!

4. ACTIVE RECOVERY: you want to make sure you go for a walk, low intensity exercise, mobility/ stretching so your body doesn’t stiffen up.

5. PASSIVE RECOVERY: You can get something like a massage, using a massage gun, ice/warm compresses. Things that will help increase blood flow and reduce inflammation.

Not the best news to start the week but for everyone that hasn’t been up to date with me & partially do to me not really updating either 😅 mostly because of me processing.

Nonetheless……

I thought I had an MLC Strain, but comes to find out I tore some ligaments in my knee. Got the MRI & that news last week on the 24th.
All of this because of a dumb basketball play by someone.
Tore my ACL, partially tore PCL, partially tore LCL, completely torn Meniscus……soooo yea heavy knee surgery coming up in a week, November 4th.

I’ve been taking this time to reflect on what has happened in my life over the last 3-4month & this was an indication I guess that I needed to sit my ass all the way down & figure some stuff out 🤷🏾‍♂️

It’s been a roller coaster ride of emotions & I want to say thank you to those that have reached out to me sending positive vibes/energy my way it’s much appreciated 🙏🏾

Just taking it one day at a time while looking it as a time to be down & rise like the phoenix from the ashes.
Just a setback for a major comeback ✊🏾💪🏾🙏🏾👑

Well well well….

Everything was fine & dandy until my right knee bucked underneath me while making a basketball play. I get bumped on my left side (because someone wanted to make a last second play) & now I have an MCL strain 🙄

Knee is swollen, got an x-ray done, no structural damage to the knee. See an orthopedic doctor this coming week to find out whatever else. Definitely fluid in the knee that has to get drained too 🤦🏾‍♂️

Just something else to add to the list of things that have been going wrong….but staying optimistic is the name of the game.

Having blind faith is a must & each & everyday I’m learning more and more what that is….

Trying to keep it mentally together plus anyone that knows me knows how much I just hate being still 😅

NONETHELESS….

I will be documenting & show y’all the process & teaching yall a few things along the way. Giving info about what the MCL does and why it’s important & how to properly bounce back to your sport/everyday life.
