Athletic Training World According to Afolabi

Athletic Training World According to Afolabi Putting myself in the shoes of the athletes/patients and getting to know them.
-Injury Prevention
-Self stretching techniques
-Common injuries explained

Making it easy for the athlete/patient to understand whats going on with their body during injury without all the technicality, leaving them in a daze and confused state. It's one thing for health professionals to be well knowledgeable in what they're educated in, but can we (Health care professionals) put forth that info to the patients/athletes where it's easy to understand and educate them at the same time.

Part IV Ankle Stability

Hey what’s up guys I know it’s been a while with everything going on in the world.

But I finally had time to work on my 4th installment on the ankle stability.

Here I have my πŸ€ athlete working on the next phase which is similar set up like the basketball drill (progression) in my other post. The only thing different is he’s doing two types of lunges.

▫️
▫️
▫️
Phase 1: maintaining shoulder stabilization he does a stationary lunge maintaining core stabilization while not letting the force of the band on his wrist bring him in. 3x10

▫️
▫️
▫️

Phase 2:
Same as phase 1 only difference is while he does the lunges on the 5th rep he’s not letting his knee touch the mat, it’s actually an inch off the mat and he holds that position for 5 secs, making sure core is stable and glute is activated (keeping neutral spine). 4 set of 10.

Now you’re probably saying what does this have to do with ankles?πŸ€”
Here’s the thing I like to work from the ground up ankle, knee, hips. I saw where he was improving in the ankle workouts so I was moving to the next part of the body. **Also due to the unfortunate circumstances of COVID-19 his ankle program was put on hold**

But to incorporate ankle into this workout, if you saw the πŸ”΅dyna disc in the corner, I would’ve had him place that ankle on the disc and work on doing the lunge (stable to unstable surface).

Being one on one with these guys and hearing their needs and me being able to meet them with, treatment, taping or stretching is what I’m about as an Athletic Trainer. I don’t do no cookie cutter treatment because what works for one athlete doesn’t work for all, I like to just listen to the athlete and come up with something outside the box not Crazy but Beneficial.

Just out here working on my craft and taking every opportunity to get better! πŸ’ͺ🏾πŸ’ͺ🏾 πŸ€ΎπŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ

I live by this quote of mine! In my career I’ve notice the confusion due to lack of knowledge about Athletic Training/ Trainer and I’ve seen and heard some trainers call themselves ATs (Athletic Trainers) because they trained athletes, but don’t do the same job description as the ATC (Athletic Trainer Certified).

If you haven’t already make sure to checkout πŸ“²my last post on Stabilization using proprioception.

With any rehab program I like to get creative and make it as close to sport specific as I can, not a fan of cookie cutter programs because what works for one client/ athlete doesn’t alway for the other. πŸ”ΉπŸ”ΉπŸ”ΉπŸ”ΉπŸ”ΉπŸ”ΉπŸ”ΉπŸ”ΉπŸ”Ή

Also athletes during the offseason, marathon runners, or my desk workers who seem to be tight due to posture issues, come schedule an appointment w/ me via DM and come see me at Velocity Performance Center where I can work on your mobility!
