In a lesson setting or training session, it’s really common to feel like a horse isn’t listening…

But when I look through the Language Between’s 3 maps, I’m not just seeing behavior anymore.

I’m seeing a horse who might not be fully oriented…
a human who might be holding pressure…
and conditions that haven’t supported connection yet.

Instead of:
👉 “The horse isn’t listening”

I start to widen the lens.

The human might be trying to do it right.
The horse might be tired, shut down, or distracted.
The environment might already be asking a lot.

Now the moment isn’t a problem—
it’s a field of influences.

And when I make a request… and don’t get the response I expected…

Instead of:
👉 “He’s ignoring me”
👉 “I need more pressure”

I pause.

I notice the quality of my request.
I notice how the horse is responding—not just what they’re doing.
I let the response mean something.

Not disobedience…
but information.

And then something shifts.

The interaction becomes a conversation, not a correction.

Even if the horse moves forward… I’m asking something different:

Not “did it work?”
But…
👉 “What kind of participation is this?”

Because compliance and connection are not the same thing.

So instead of asking,
“How do I make this work?”

I find myself asking,
“What’s happening here… and what is this response actually telling me?”

What if the relationship with your horse could become a place of mutual learning instead of control?

The Language Between is a relational and somatic learning program exploring the ongoing conversation between horse and human bodies. Together, we learn to notice nervous system patterns, pressure, participation, tension, regulation, communication, and the conditions shaping connection.

This is not about mastering a horse or finding the perfect technique.
It is about becoming more aware — of ourselves, the horse, and what happens between us.

We explore:

* participation vs compliance
* how pressure and expectation shape response
* the relational patterns humans often unknowingly bring into horse relationships
* and how horses communicate through the body long before behavior escalates

As humans become more somatically aware, many horses begin responding differently too — not through force, but through relationship, attunement, discernment, and the possibility of genuine participation.

The horses are learning us, too.

✨ Relationship is the method.

The Language Between is a 3-month relational and somatic learning experience exploring horse–human interaction through nervous system awareness, discernment, responsiveness, and relationship.

The Language Between
This program is for you if…

• you’ve ever felt confused when your horse “suddenly” reacts and you know there was more happening beneath the surface
• you feel torn between wanting relationship and wanting clarity or safety with your horse
• you’re tired of approaches that rely on pressure, dominance, or shutting behavior down without understanding it
• you find yourself anxious, bracing, overthinking, or escalating in moments with your horse and want something different
• you sense your horse is communicating more than traditional training language accounts for
• you’ve felt afraid to question traditional horse culture or speak up about what doesn’t feel right to you
• you’ve felt dismissed, criticized, or pushed out of horse spaces for wanting a more relational or trauma-conscious approach
• you want to understand nervous systems, response, participation, and relationship in a deeper way
• you work in therapy, healing, bodywork, coaching, or caregiving and notice similar relational patterns showing up with horses

*The Language Between* is a 3-month relational and somatic learning experience exploring what happens between horse and human — beyond technique, performance, or behavior modification alone.

This work is grounded in:
• nervous system awareness
• relational discernment
• trauma-conscious practice
• anti-oppressive perspectives
• embodied awareness and responsiveness

We explore:
• requests and response
• participation vs adaptation
• how conditions shape interaction
• assertiveness without dominance
• relationship as a dynamic process rather than a performance outcome

✨ Founding cohort begins June 1
✨ Small group experience
✨ 3-payment option available
✨ Limited sliding scale spots

If your relationship with horses has been asking deeper questions, this may be for you.

One of the things horses have taught me over and over again is that relationship changes when we stop trying to push past thresholds.

Not every hesitation is resistance.

Not every “no” is defiance.

Not every hard moment needs to be solved through more pressure, more certainty, or more control.

There have been moments with my own horses where I could feel the pull to override:
their discomfort,
my discomfort,
the uncertainty,
the slowness,
the not-knowing.

And honestly… many of us were taught that pushing through is what good horse people do.

But some of the most meaningful shifts in relationship happened when I stopped trying to force clarity and instead stayed curious.

When I slowed down enough to notice what the horse might actually be communicating.

When I allowed nervous systems, fear, history, environment, conditions, and relationship to matter.

Traditional horse training has largely not been designed to deeply account for nervous systems, trauma, embodiment, or relational dynamics — for either horses or humans.

And many trauma-informed spaces are not equipped to fully understand the complexity of horse-human relationships either.

The Language Between was created to help bridge that gap.

Not through dominance.
Not through performance.
Not through bypassing behavior.

But through relational and somatic learning that helps us recognize the difference between shutdown, compliance, participation, expression, and genuine regulation — in both horses and ourselves.

This program grew out of lived experience, clinical work, somatic practice, and years of listening differently to horses.

Not from wanting a better technique —
but from wanting a more honest relationship.

Enrollment for the founding cohort is now open and begins soon.

And if you’ve quietly been looking for a different way of being with horses, you are welcome here.

“Calm” is often rewarded in both horses and humans.

But calm is not always the same thing as regulation.

Sometimes it is resignation.
Sometimes it is shutdown.
Sometimes it is survival.
Sometimes it is compliance.

And participation does not always look polished.

Participation can look:
messy,
expressive,
uncertain,
slow,
relational,
curious,
ambivalent,
alive.

Many of us were taught — directly or indirectly — to prioritize obedience over relationship.

To override discomfort.
To normalize disconnection.
To equate stillness with success.

But horses communicate through the body.
And so do we.

When we begin paying attention to nervous systems, conditions, orientation, consent, pressure, environment, and relationship… we often start seeing things differently.

This is one of the foundations of The Language Between.

Not a training method.
Not a dominance framework.
Not a step-by-step system.

A relational and somatic learning space exploring what becomes possible when we slow down enough to truly listen.

Enrollment for the founding cohort is closing soon! Start June 1
