PERCEPTION.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Come on this journey with me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few weeks ago I was goofing around with my husband and kids. I swung my right leg up to kick my hubby in the butt, he caught my leg and with the kids jumping around me I fell to the ground. I did not think anything of it, until I got up to stand and noticed my knee felt "off" and painful.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For those of you that do not know my history with my wonderful right knee here you go: 3 ACL reconstructions, 1 Meniscal repair, an arthroscopic debridement, and a few PRP injections.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know my knee very well and this sensation was like no other I have experienced. I took that day to see how things settled and when they did not I immediately reached out to my sports med doc who I have trusted since I was 15.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I went to see him and get his expert opinion and was not really expecting the news I received. To be honest I was hoping it was a little meniscal tear and I could be on my merry way with PRP and rehab. However, it seems my knee is wedged laterally with massive cartilage loss. Not the easiest "fix" for this.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was deep down very emotional, especially after the years of rehab with this knee.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, Here's the thing...
Without this injury happening, my knee OA would have continued progressing rapidly and causing more damage that would not be reversible, think knee replacement at an early age.
I am gifted now with the opportunity to pull up my socks, get my stubborn, determined self to work my ass off to rehab it in a way that will prolong or prevent me from going down that replacement path.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We can look at an event in two ways: I can stay in the negative narrative of "why me", "It's too late to make a change", which is not actionable or productive. OR, I can shift into "what a great learning experience", "Let me show others that it can be done". I like the latter.
