This beautiful Victorian inspired house was built in 1894 by James Abbott for his daughter. It sits next door to its sister house, and both are the last remaining homes in the Abbott Subdivision in downtown Springfield, MO. The Gestalt House Today

At first sight, it answered all of the needs and desires in offering a safe and homey space for people to come and heal. Walking through the front door offered a peacefulness that is rare in today’s climate. It offered an aged beauty that was beyond words and surprises that still floor me. The words “move-in ready” came to mind. Maybe a wall painted here or there and done, open the doors and let its light shine. This house became a metaphor for my work, my life, and my passion. My “move-in ready” evolved into seeing, finding, fixing, and strengthening. I never imagined that I would Gestalt a house, but that is what happened. I saw the things that needed to be fixed and fixed them. I found the weaknesses in the foundation and structure and strengthened them. This house needed to be healed and strengthened so it could provide the safe sanctuary of love, compassion, and healing. This house represents life. We may look or feel broken, but in reality, we are whole beautiful beings that only need help in finding the parts that need healing and strengthening. It has been a labor of love. Welcome to The Gestalt House, a place that offers a caring sanctuary for your self-care, whether that be externally, internally, or emotionally. To Your Continued Growth and Success! Teha Callen

Here's an uncomfortable question:
Who would you be if nobody needed you?
Not loved you.
Needed you.
There's a difference.
If you weren't fixing.
Helping.
Managing.
Remembering.
Anticipating.
Keeping the peace.
Being the reliable one.
Would you feel relieved?
Or would part of you feel strangely unnecessary?
Sometimes we become so identified with what we provide that receiving feels uncomfortable and simply BEING feels unproductive.
Then we call ourselves independent.
Maybe.
But independence feels very different from never allowing yourself to need anyone.
Which feels more uncomfortable to you: someone needing you or YOU needing someone?

Maybe you don't need to become more intuitive.
Maybe you need to stop arguing with yourself every time you know something.
Think about how often this happens:
Something feels off.
Then your mind arrives.
“I'm probably overthinking.”
“I'm being too sensitive.”
“Maybe I misunderstood.”
“They probably didn't mean it that way.”
“I don't have enough proof.”
And twenty minutes later you've constructed an airtight argument against your own experience.
Then months later:
“I KNEW IT.”
Your intuition may not have disappeared.
Your trust in it might have.
For one week, try something different:
When you get that first quiet knowing, write it down.
Don't act on it.
Don't make it mean anything.
Just stop immediately dismissing it.
Then watch.
Have you ever known something before you could explain HOW you knew it?

You finally get the house to yourself.
Nobody needs anything.
No phone call you have to make.
No problem waiting for you.
You have exactly what you've been asking for:
Time.
And within ten minutes...
you're cleaning something.
Checking email.
Scrolling.
Thinking about tomorrow.
Finding something productive to do.
Interesting, isn't it?
We talk a lot about wanting peace.
We talk less about whether we know how to be in it once it arrives.
Sometimes doing nothing isn't uncomfortable because you're bad at relaxing.
Sometimes quiet leaves you alone with yourself.
And if you've spent years staying busy, useful, needed or distracted, that can be a surprisingly unfamiliar person to sit with.
What do you automatically reach for when everything finally gets quiet?

Try this today.

The next time you feel yourself becoming irritated, defensive, hurt or suddenly wanting to shut down...
don't immediately do anything about it.
* Don't fix it.
* Don't explain it.
* Don't tell yourself you shouldn't feel that way.

Just notice:

What happened immediately before I changed?
* A look?
* A tone?
* A word?
* Someone interrupting you?
* Feeling ignored?
* Feeling corrected?
* Feeling like you weren't being heard?

We usually focus on the reaction because it's loud.

I'm much more interested in the moment right before it.
That's often where the real information is.

Try it once today.
If you catch the moment, come back and tell me what you noticed.

“I don't want another temporary fix.”

That's a sentence people don't usually say until they're exhausted.
Not just physically exhausted.
Exhausted from getting their hopes up.

Something helps.
You feel better.

Maybe you even think, “Finally.”
And then slowly, whatever you were dealing with starts creeping back in.
* The tension.
* The discomfort.
* The exhaustion.
* That feeling that your body never completely settles.

Eventually, you stop getting excited when something helps because part of you is already waiting for it to come back.

That's a hard place to live from.

Because eventually disappointment doesn't just change what you're willing to try.

It changes what you're willing to hope for.

And THAT is what I don't want us normalizing.

Have you ever stopped hoping something could change simply because you've been disappointed too many times?
