Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, serves as a poignant reminder of our history, resilience, and the right to rest, joy, and full expression. Every time I create, dream, and assert my presence, I honor the individuals who came before me.
On June 19, 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, freedom finally reached the last enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas. This day became Juneteenth—a delayed freedom, a liberation reclaimed, and a testament to the strength of our ancestors.
