Saturday night we celebrated Tom.
Shankel’s Pharmacy has been in this small community since 1923, though it didn’t become the Shankel’s most of us know until March 1st, 1987.
The day Tom became owner.
It is difficult to put into words how we feel about Tom. He has been nothing short of an amazing pharmacist, boss and all around person. Some people are truly sent to this earth to do the lords work, and he is a servant. The amount of lives he has touched has reached thousands. Including ours. To be as patient and loving, understanding and knowledgeable, devoted and supportive as Tom, would be nothing short of a blessing.
Under Tom’s ownership, the pharmacy has been a place where many people feel safe, welcomed and cherished. It’s always easy for someone to say “Go to Shankel’s, Tom will help you.”
I myself recently had an appointment, and the provider said to me “Tom and Chris are some of the best pharmacists I know. They are so attentive to their patients and they really care about them. It’s been a pleasure to work along side them for all these years.”
And that alone speaks volumes about who we are at Shankel’s Pharmacy. Because that is who Tom taught us to be. He has been the best mentor and leader we could have ever asked for.
Many tears were shed, as Chris and Tom both talked about how grateful they were to have each other in their lives, but what they don’t know, is how absolutely grateful we are for them. They have made it so, that work feels like a place we can call our second home, and where family always matters.
Chris has some really big shoes to fill, but we have no doubt that he will be capable to do so. He really was taught by the best.
We wish nothing but the best for Tom in his retirement. To travel and experience things he’s always dreamed of, and to enjoy the life he’s worked so hard to achieve.
