A little glimpse into something I enjoy outside of the therapy room ๐Ÿฅš

One thing people quickly learn when they get chickens is that having your own eggs usually isnโ€™t about โ€œsaving moneyโ€ on eggs.

Itโ€™s more about knowing where your food comes from, understanding what goes into it, and valuing the quality of what youโ€™re putting into your body.

Iโ€™m still constantly learning, but one of the things I find fascinating is the natural โ€œbloomโ€ on fresh eggsโ€”which helps protect them and is why unwashed eggs can safely stay on the counter for weeks before refrigeration.

Thereโ€™s something grounding about being connected to the process instead of only the convenience.

And honestlyโ€ฆ I think that mindset carries into the work I do, too.

Whether weโ€™re talking about mental health, nervous system regulation, hormones, nutrition, or overall wellness, I donโ€™t believe healing is one-size-fits-all.

Sometimes itโ€™s about slowing down, learning how things actually work, and becoming more intentional about the choices we make day to day.

Not because you have to do everything perfectly or holisticallyโ€ฆ but because understanding the bigger picture matters.

We live in a world of constant stimulationโ€”and our brains are paying the price.

Dopamine is part of the brainโ€™s reward system.
It helps drive motivation, pleasure, and reinforcement.

But modern life constantly pulls on that system through:
โ€ข scrolling
โ€ข notifications
โ€ข fast entertainment
โ€ข constant stimulation
โ€ข instant gratification

Over time, this can leave people feeling:
โ€ข mentally exhausted
โ€ข unfocused
โ€ข emotionally flat
โ€ข restless without understanding why

Many people think they need more stimulation to feel betterโ€ฆ
when what the brain may actually need is less.

This is part of the conversation weโ€™ll be exploring at our June luncheon:
The Dopamine Dilemma with Dr. Cole Upton

Learning how to slow down, create healthier rhythms, and support the nervous system is becoming more important than ever.

In this weekโ€™s episode of the Cultivate Calmness Podcast, Kaela opens up about the realities of healing, wellness, and lifestyle change through her own personal health journey. From nutritional protocols and supplement routines to cravings, setbacks, conferences, disrupted schedules, and moments of discouragement, she shares the emotional and practical challenges that often come with trying to make lasting change. Kaela explores the difference between quick fixes and sustainable wellness, emphasizing that healing is rarely linear and often requires patience, support, and flexibility. This episode is a compassionate reminder that setbacks donโ€™t mean failureโ€”theyโ€™re simply part of the process of becoming healthier, more aware, and more aligned over time.

Constant tension in your body isnโ€™t just physicalโ€”itโ€™s often tied to stress.

Your nervous system may not know how to fully relax.

This is something that can be learned and supported.

At the 2026 Central Ohio Mental Health Professionals Conference, Nicholas Bolton explored an important concept in trauma and nervous system work: neuroception ๐ŸŒฟ

In this clip, Nicholas explains how the nervous system is constantly scanning for safety or danger beneath conscious awareness. According to Polyvagal Theory, these responses happen automatically and can deeply shape emotions, relationships, anxiety levels, and a personโ€™s ability to feel regulated or connected.

Understanding this helps shift the conversation around trauma and mental health. Sometimes people arenโ€™t โ€œoverreactingโ€ or โ€œbeing difficultโ€โ€”their nervous system may simply be responding to cues of danger based on past experiences.

Conversations like this help deepen awareness of how trauma lives in the body and why creating safety is such an important part of healing ๐Ÿ’š

At the 2026 Central Ohio Mental Health Professionals Conference, Nicholas Bolton shared an important reminder about trauma healing: healing doesnโ€™t happen by forcing someone to relive everything all at once ๐ŸŒฟ

In this clip, Nicholas explains the concept of *titration*โ€”working with trauma in small, manageable pieces instead of overwhelming the nervous system with the full intensity of an experience all at once.

This approach helps clients build safety, stability, and regulation while staying connected to the present moment. Itโ€™s a powerful example of how trauma-informed care honors the nervous system rather than pushing beyond what the body can safely process.

Conversations like this help deepen understanding of why pacing, safety, and nervous system awareness matter so much in trauma recovery ๐Ÿ’š
