The worst work day of my life became the push that changed everything.
I’ve never shared this story publicly before, but honestly… I think someone out there might need the reminder that sometimes the moments that completely break us open are also the moments that force us into growth.
What started as a normal day tattooing beautiful flowers quickly turned into absolute chaos. I had been warning my landlord for over a week about serious plumbing issues in the building. I even hired a plumber myself trying to solve the problem on my end, but it went far beyond my unit. Nothing was being handled.
Then the restroom plumbing exploded. And when I say exploded… I mean a full sewage disaster.
I was horrified. Embarrassed. Mortified that this was happening while my client was sitting in my studio trusting me to give her an amazing experience. I felt like I had failed her, even though the situation was completely out of my control.
But looking back now, I genuinely believe life was forcing me forward. I had become stagnant. Comfortable with things that no longer matched my standards. I was scared to expand, scared to take the leap into something bigger and better. The universe stopped giving gentle hints and gave me a hard shove instead.
And somehow, in the middle of all that chaos, the right person was sitting in my chair. My sweet little angel Camille remained calm while I was internally falling apart. She showed me compassion when I was overwhelmed and discouraged. And in the most unexpected twist, she happened to mention a strip mall nearby with several commercial vacancies.
Before the plumbing issue was even fully resolved, I drove over to look at the location. And long story short… that became the home of my current studio.
That experience pushed me into a new chapter of growth—not just in my business, but in the level of experience I’m now able to give my clients. Looking back, I can honestly say one of the worst days of my career became one of the most important turning points in my life.
And the cherry on top? Camille came back for another tattoo 🖤
Thank you, Camille. You’ll probably never fully know how much that day—and your kindness during it—meant to me.
