Tim & Kathy Shaw Named 2026 Recipients of Brad Thorsby Award

DURAND, MI – June 2026 – The Thorsby Family is proud to announce that Tim and Kathy Shaw have been selected as the 2026 recipients of the Brad Thorsby Memorial Icon Award.

Established in 2024, the award was first presented posthumously to the Thorsby Family in honor of Brad Thorsby, who passed away suddenly in October 2023. Brad was a beloved businessman, former Chamber and DDA member, and dedicated volunteer whose generosity and commitment left a lasting impact on the Durand community. The annual award recognizes individuals who exemplify Brad’s legacy through passionate community service, leadership, and dedication to making Durand a better place.

Tim and Kathy Shaw were the longtime owners of Shaw’s Pharmacy and Gifts in downtown Durand. Following the sale of the business, the couple relocated to Owosso and now spend their winters in Florida. While they may no longer call Durand home, their commitment to the community has never wavered.

Throughout the years, Tim served as President of the Durand Downtown Development Authority and as President of the Durand Rotary Club. Kathy has served as Treasurer of the Durand Rotary Club for several years and was one of the coordinators of Wednesday Night Live for many years, helping the popular summer event grow into a community tradition.

The Shaws have remained active supporters of Durand through their continued involvement in the Annual Durand Charity Chicken Barbecue, the Durand Rotary Club, and the Greater Durand Area Chamber of Commerce, where they continue to maintain their membership. They also volunteered for many years with the End of Summer Cruisin’ event and have consistently supported local projects, organizations, and community activities.

“On behalf of my family, we are more than honored to present Tim and Kathy as the 2026 recipients of this award,” said Pat Thorsby. “Their hard work and dedication to the community embody what this award is all about. They have given so much of themselves to Durand over the years, and we are proud to recognize their contributions.”

The award will be presented at the Greater Durand Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Durand VFW.

Congratulations to the Byron Boys Golf Team 💛💜

The Byron Boys Golf team is STATE BOUND! 🦅⛳
The Eagles battled their way to a 3rd place finish at today’s Regionals with a team score of 351 to punch their ticket to the state finals!
Senior Anthony Wren shot a 77 to earn 4th place, while senior Braylen Brown shot an 85 for an 11th place finish. Senior Morris Ayliffe added a 95, and juniors Aiden Gray and Halston Hooley rounded out the scoring with rounds of 94 and 99.
Next stop: STATES! The Eagles will compete next Friday and Saturday at Forrest Akers West on the campus of Michigan State University.
