One of our Doctors of Physical Therapy, Maddie, working with a patient to improve functional mobility and strength - helping make walking more efficient, confident, and independent 💪🏻

Do you feel unstable when walking?

It might not just be your balance. It could be a key muscle on the side of your hip called the gluteus medius.

This muscle works hardest when you’re standing on one leg (which happens every step you take 👣). Its job is to:

➡️ Keep your pelvis level
➡️ Prevent your hips from dropping
➡️ Help you stay steady and confident while walking

When it’s weak, you may notice:

⚠️ Swaying side to side
⚠️ Feeling off balance
⚠️ Hip or low back discomfort

The good news? 💪
You can train it! Start with simple exercises and work your way up to the more challenging ones (outlined in the video). This can make a big difference!

Stronger hips = safer, steadier walking.

If you’re feeling unsteady, a physical therapist from Midwest Performance Rehab can help guide you safely.
