Health Tip Tuesday!

Building a delicious and nutritious lunch doesn't have to be complicated. Swipe through to see how we build a balanced plate.

1) Start with a good base: farmer's market greens, radishes, and cucumbers, seasoned with salt, pepper, and olive oil for a boost in healthy fats.

2) Add a pop of color with a beautiful tomato and a good source of protein, such as sardines. Season with a balsamic drizzle.

3) Finish off your dish with some basil and freshly shaved Parmesan for extra protein, calcium, and rich flavor.

The key is to add more nutrients, not take them away. Please use all organic ingredients! Follow for more health tips and delicious food :)

Have you ever received blood lab results and thought, now what?

Knowing your numbers is one thing, but understanding what they mean for your body- that's a whole other level.

We see you and hear you. That's why the August 2026 educational topic in our Nest Membership is all about understanding your labs from a functional nutrition perspective.

Learn how to take your specific results and markers to make real-life decisions that improve your daily life. Individuality is important; we all need different things to thrive. Blood work is a great tool, but only if you know how to apply it correctly.

Cool, right?!

Walking the farm at Valle Escondido Nature Center in Costa Rica, I kept noticing how permaculture’s design principles mirror what we teach in oncology nutrition.

🔍 Observe before you act
⚡️ Store energy before you need it
👂 Listen to feedback (your body always talks)
🥗 Food-first, always
🤝 Heal in connection, not isolation
🐢 Small, slow change lasts
🌈 Diversity builds resilience
🧘‍♀️ Adapt, don’t push the outcome

Growing & healing isn’t about forcing a result; it’s about creating the right conditions and trusting the process.

Did you know cooking your tomatoes actually makes them more powerful? Here's why!

Lycopene is what gives tomatoes that deep red color, and research links it to inhibiting cancer cell growth, protecting DNA, and supporting your body's detox pathways. But it's fat-soluble, so your body needs fat to actually absorb it. And cooking breaks down the cell walls, releasing way more lycopene than you'd get eating them raw.

To maximize the benefits, cook them in olive oil.

A few ways I like to do it:
Slow-roasted with olive oil and garlic on top of protein
Quick sauté with zucchini or leafy greens
Add to an egg scramble and top with olive oil

The way you cook your food can matter just as much as what you choose to eat!

How do you like to eat your tomatoes??

Did you know four distinct layers of genetics shape cancer risk and how your body responds to food and treatment?

As a cancer survivor and oncology nutrition practitioner, I've spent years studying this and living it.

🧬 Genetics: the variants you were born with. Knowledge isn't fear; it's power.

🌿 Epigenetics: how your sleep, stress, food, and environment influence how your genes are expressed. This is where lifestyle has the most leverage.

🥦 Nutrigenomics: how food interacts with your unique genetic variants. Same food, different response, in the same person.

🔬 Tumor genetics: cancer cells develop their own mutations, separate from yours. Tumor genomic testing helps you understand how a cancer behaves and what it may respond to.

This is why one-size-fits-all nutrition doesn't work and why we take into account the whole person!
