Air Evac Lifeteam 174 was honored to welcome the Coleman Summer School students to our base for a morning of learning, exploration, and fun. The students toured our helicopter, sat in the pilot and patient care areas, learned about emergency medical services, and got an up-close look at the equipment we use to care for patients on some of their worst days.

Our crew also shared important summer safety reminders, including the importance of wearing helmets, using life jackets, staying hydrated, and knowing when to call 911.

We were proud to partner with Bryan County EMS, who brought an ambulance and gave the students a chance to learn more about the first responders who serve their community every day.

Thank you to the students, teachers, and Bryan County EMS for making today such a special visit. We loved spending the morning with these bright young minds and hope we sparked a little curiosity-and maybe even inspired a few future pilots, paramedics, nurses, and first responders. 🚁❤️

We have partnered with Alliance Health Durant and our crew and helicopter have moved to our new base located beside the hospital. We are happy to be centrally located in town and close to the hospital for quick access to our community! As the weather warms up, so does activity on the water. During National Safe Boating Week, Air Evac 174 offers the following tips to keep you safe while boating.
• Check the weather forecast before heading out
• Always wear a life jacket or personal floatation device
• Be sure there is a personal flotation device for every person on board
• Don’t overload your boat
• Never stand up in your small powerboat, canoe or similar watercraft
• Avoid alcohol use
• Use common sense and operate responsibly
• Check with local authorities for safety regulations governing watercraft use

On Safety Tuesday during EMS Week, Air Evac 174 is sharing helpful reminders to make sure you’re prepared when calling 911. Knowing what to expect – and what information to provide – can help emergency responders get to you faster and safely. Here are a few important tips to keep in mind.
• Stay calm: You will need to communicate clearly with the call taker
• Know the address of the house or building you are at, including the street address and unit/apartment number
• Know the phone number you are calling from
• Communicate the nature of your emergency and related details
• Tell the call taker if anyone needs medical attention
• Be prepared to follow any instructions the call taker might give you
• DO NOT hang up until the call taker instructs you to do so
