Early postpartum support is more than a public health issue, it’s a financial bottom-line issue.

Family Connects has been associated with a 28% decrease in Medicaid spending for mothers and infants during the 9-month postpartum period—an average reduction of $1,526 per family compared to non-participants.

At the same time, more mothers covered by Medicaid completed their postpartum check-ups after participating in Family Connects, helping ensure families stay connected to care during one of the most important periods for maternal and infant health.

This is what happens when support is proactive, connected, and built into the system from the start.

Better outcomes for families.
Stronger systems for communities.
And smarter investments in the future of maternal and child health.

The time is now. WE. KNOW. WHAT. WORKS.

For many parents, it's more than just a referral: it’s an answer to a critical question, a doorway to a new strategy or way of thinking, or even a lifeline during challenging times.

The right referral at the right time can make all the difference for the family of a newborn.

We can be that connected. For parents. For Children. For Community.

How do we know it works?

The evidence is clear.

Family Connects newborn nurse visits are associated with a 30% lower likelihood of possible postpartum depression or anxiety, reduced disparities across racial groups in multiple health outcomes, and higher rates of paternal involvement and stronger father-infant relationship quality.

And families agree.

According to recent data, 86% of women believe postpartum follow-ups should extend beyond current standards of care. And 99% of participants say they would recommend Family Connects.

This is our opportunity to build a more connected, responsive postpartum system—one that supports families when it matters most.

We can do better.

Unlike every other high-income nations, the U.S. has no standard of universal postpartum care for mothers and birthing parents.

And yet we know what works.

We know that universal, nurse-led postpartum programs like Family Connects help fill this critical gap by providing:

- No-cost nurse home visit for every family.
- Early detection of postpartum complications.
- Emotional and mental health screening.
- Personalized guidance on newborn care and parent healing.
- Stronger connections to community and medical resources.

When postpartum care is universal, outcomes improve, parents feel supported, and babies thrive.

We. Can. Do. Better.

Some days caring for a newborn can feel incredibly joyful and fulfilling.

While others can feel … heavy.

And that doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed when you’re learning your baby’s needs, navigating your own healing, and trying to keep life moving at the same time.

But here’s the thing: You don’t have to carry it alone.

The right support—someone to listen, someone who understands newborns and parents, someone who can help you make sense of what you’re feeling—can lighten the load in real and meaningful ways.

At Family Connects, our nurses are here to walk beside you, offering reassurance, guidance, and compassion when you need it most.

Feeling overwhelmed is human.
Having right support is strength.

We know the earliest days matter. We know that postpartum supports lead to later success. We know that mothers who receive postpartum support services, like Family Connects newborn nurse visits, report more positive parenting behaviors in the years that follow.

We know that when families are supported, confident, and connected from the very start, benefits extend beyond today, well into tomorrow, and the many many tomorrows to come.

We know that the strongest start possible for children means with supporting families now.

And we know thought-leader organizations like Heartland Forward and visionaries like Olivia Walton know it too.

So let’s do something about it.

Because we know what works.

Improving maternal health doesn’t just save lives—
it saves billions.

$165 billion to be exact—ANNUALLY.

That’s the cost of poor maternal health outcomes in the U.S. today.

Thankfully, we can change that.

In partnership with Heartland Forward, efforts like Healthy Moms Healthy Babies America are leading the way—bringing focus, urgency, and coordination to one of the most critical moments in care: the postpartum period.

And Family Connects is ready.

Because when we invest in early, connected support, we don’t just improve outcomes—we build stronger systems, healthier communities, and a brighter, more sustainable future.

The time is now. WE. KNOW. WHAT. WORKS.

IF parents receive support during the critical newborn period …

THEN family confidence grows and children experience more stable, nurturing care.

WHEN children thrive emotionally, physically, and developmentally …

THEN schools, neighborhoods, and communities are strong and more resilience.

And IF communities invest in early, universal family support like Family Connects …

THEN we reduce crises, strengthen protective factors, and build healthier futures for everyone — and it all begins by supporting families from the very start.

THRIVING CHILDREN = COMMUNITY SUCCESS

Pass it on.
