Rest is not the opposite of training.
It is the part that tells the body what to do with the training.
Without enough sleep, protein, fuel, and recovery, exercise is simply another demand your body has to survive.
With them, that same demand becomes the signal to rebuild muscle, improve metabolic health, and become more resilient.
That distinction matters in midlife.
The answer is not always to push harder.
And it is definitely not to become afraid of effort.
It is to restore the body well enough that effort produces adaptation instead of more depletion.
That is the difference between exercising a stressed body and actually building a stronger one.
