Your body notices the season before your calendar does.

The mornings are darker. The air is cooler. We’re moving indoors, sharing more air and asking our bodies to adjust to changing light, temperature and routines.

Most people wait until they feel run down before looking for support. But the transition is already happening, and this is the window to meet it intentionally.

Sauna as mornings cool.
Red light as daylight drops.
Halo as indoor season begins.
IV support before a demanding stretch.

Or keep it simple: step outside and get morning light while it’s still easy.

Support the transition, not just the aftermath.

In 1843, a Polish physician published a study on why the salt miners weren’t getting sick.

Feliks Boczkowski worked at the Wieliczka mine outside Kraków. The respiratory illnesses common across the region were largely absent among the men working underground. He had already opened a health facility at the mine four years earlier. The first underground treatment chamber followed in 1853.

What they were breathing was fairly simple. A fine salt aerosol thrown into the air by the mining itself. Almost no dust, no pollen, no smoke. Stable temperature and humidity year round. Underground, those men had the cleanest air available to anyone in 19th century Europe.

In the Treasure Valley we have the opposite arrangement. A valley holds whatever settles into it. Wildfire smoke, winter inversion, agricultural dust, and then indoor air for the rest of the year.
Most of us haven’t breathed genuinely clean air in a while. We’ve just stopped noticing.

Last in a four part series on the practices that came long before the wellness industry did. Heat. Cold. Light. Salt. None of it new. All of it older than the word wellness.

In 1903, light therapy won the Nobel Prize in Medicine.

Niels Ryberg Finsen was recognized for treating lupus vulgaris, a tuberculosis of the skin, using concentrated light. Within a few years, 40 Finsen Institutes had opened across Europe and the United States. Before antibiotics, light was mainstream medicine.

Worth being precise about one thing, because it matters.

Finsen’s prize was for ultraviolet light, not red. Modern red light therapy came later, and mostly by accident. We’d rather tell you that than let the story sound tidier than it is.

What hasn’t changed is the underlying fact. Roughly half the sunlight reaching the earth’s surface is infrared. Not the part you see. The part you feel. Human skin spent every one of its evolutionary years receiving that full spectrum, daily.

Then we moved indoors and put glass in front of everything. Windows, windshields, screens. Most of us now get a filtered fraction of what our physiology was built around.

We didn’t stop needing light. We stopped standing in it.

Red light therapy isn’t a replacement for going outside. It’s a way to get some of what an Idaho winter stops providing. Available in the wellness lounge at both locations.

In parts of Scandinavia, people have been cutting holes in frozen lakes for centuries.

Not as a challenge. Not as content. As a normal winter thing, the way you might take a walk. Winter swimming clubs in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Russia have run continuously for generations.

For most of that time, nobody could have told you what it was doing.

Then in 2009, three separate research teams published in the same issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. Textbooks had said adults don’t have brown fat, the tissue that burns energy to produce heat. It was supposed to disappear after infancy.

Researchers went back through archived medical scans and found it anyway. Active, in adult necks and shoulders. Cold switched it on. It showed up more in leaner subjects, and less with age.

The practice was centuries old. The explanation was sixteen years old.

Then we eliminated cold. Heated homes, heated cars, hot water on demand. Most of us can get from October to April without ever being genuinely cold for longer than the walk to the car.

Comfort is not the same thing as health.

Whole body cryo at RISE is three minutes, cold air rather than nitrogen, and one credit on any membership. You don’t have to cut a hole in a lake. You do have to get cold.

There’s a lot of conversation around peptides right now.

But not nearly enough conversation about where they come from, how they’re sourced, and why that matters.

This Wednesday, join us at RISE Modern Wellness for a real conversation about peptide safety and responsible sourcing with our Medical Director, Dr. Jon Tribble, MD, hosted by RISE Owner + Longevity Expert Tim Andis.

We’ll talk about:

• What to look for when sourcing peptides
• Why purity and quality matter
• The difference between reputable and questionable sources
• What you should know before beginning peptide therapy
• The questions you should be asking your provider

Whether you’re currently using peptides, considering them, or simply curious about what they can do, this is an opportunity to grab a seat, ask questions, and get the facts.

Finland, Russia, Rome, Japan, Korea, Turkey. Different continents, different centuries, mostly no contact with each other. They all landed on the same practice.

They weren’t measuring heat shock proteins. But that’s what they were getting, along with circulation, cardiovascular load, and an hour of stillness with other people.

Then we solved temperature. Central heat, air conditioning, a car that’s already 70 degrees when you get in. Most of us now go an entire year without ever being deliberately hot.

Your body didn’t stop expecting it. The environment just stopped providing it.

Infrared sauna is available at both locations, one credit on any membership.

Hair.. all mine (no extensions) not since my 20’s (now 52 come September) hair naturally this long. Lean body mass dramatically improved. Aging in reverse? Yes. People have literally asked if I have had ‘work’ done. Nope.
Ask me how.

Those jars of nuts at our nurses’ station aren’t just for snacking.

They’re there with intention.

At RISE, we believe optimizing your health isn’t just about what happens during your appointment. It’s also about giving your body the nutrients it needs to respond to the therapies you’re investing in.

Here’s why you’ll often find Brazil nuts and walnuts waiting for you:

Brazil Nuts are the richest known natural source of selenium, a trace mineral your body needs to activate glutathione peroxidase, one of your most important antioxidant enzymes. Selenium helps support your body’s natural defense against oxidative stress and works alongside glutathione to keep your cells functioning at their best.

Walnuts are one of the richest dietary sources of ellagitannins, plant compounds your gut can convert into Urolithin A. This postbiotic supports mitochondrial health by helping your body recycle damaged mitochondria through a process called mitophagy, supporting healthy cellular energy and recovery.

Why does this matter?

Peptides don’t do all the work on their own.

They provide the signal.

Nutrition provides the building blocks.

Whether you’re using recovery peptides like BPC-157, mitochondrial-supporting peptides like MOTS-c, or simply working toward better energy, performance, and longevity, the right nutrition can help create an environment where your body is better equipped to respond.

Sometimes the most powerful health strategies aren’t complicated.

They’re as simple as a handful of nuts.

Summer has a way of making life feel a little slower.

Longer evenings.
More time outside.
Fewer schedules.

And somehow… it’s already back-to-school season.

Shopping lists. New routines. Earlier mornings. Packed calendars.

Even exciting transitions can place extra demands on your nervous system.

When your body stays in “go mode” for too long, stress can begin to show up in ways you might not expect:
• More muscle tension
• Lingering aches and pains
• Feeling mentally overwhelmed
• Difficulty relaxing and recharging

Sometimes your body doesn’t need you to push harder.

It needs an opportunity to reset.

Our 30-minute PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) sessions are designed to support your body’s natural recovery by:
• Supporting a healthy inflammatory response
• Helping ease everyday aches and muscle tension
• Encouraging relaxation and nervous system balance
• Giving your body and mind space to recharge before the busy season begins

As summer winds down, don’t just prepare your schedule.

Prepare yourself.

Take 30 minutes to slow down, reset, and head into the season feeling more grounded.
