πŸŽ‰ What an incredible day at our 2nd Annual Mental Health Rocks Event at the Easley Farmers Market! πŸ’šπŸŽ¨

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who came out to paint rocks, share encouragement, connect with neighbors, and help spread awareness that mental health matters.

At Upstate Carolina Autism Associates, our mission is Bridging Care, Connection, and Community. Events like Mental Health Rocks remind us that healing happens when communities come together, support one another, and create spaces where people feel seen, valued, and understood.

While May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, mental health is not something we should only talk about once a year. Mental health impacts every aspect of our livesβ€”our relationships, work, families, physical health, and overall well-being. Every conversation, every act of kindness, and every effort to reduce stigma helps create a stronger, healthier community for everyone.

Whether you painted a rock, stopped by to learn more, volunteered, or simply shared a smile, you helped send an important message:

πŸ’š It's okay to ask for help.
πŸ’š It's okay to talk about mental health.
πŸ’š No one should have to face life's challenges alone.

Thank you to our community partners, and everyone who continues to support mental health awareness throughout the year. Together, we are building a community where people can find hope, connection, and support when they need it most.

πŸ’™ THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE SAFETY FIRST SYMPOSIUM A SUCCESS! πŸ’™

Our hearts are full as we reflect on the incredible support shown at the Safety First Symposium and Safe Summer Send-Off.

A sincere thank you to all of the attendees, families, caregivers, autistic individuals, professionals, first responders, and community members who joined us to learn, connect, and strengthen the safety net that supports our community.

We are especially grateful to our outstanding presenters:

πŸš” Greenville County Sheriff's Office for sharing valuable information about safety, communication, and community partnerships and with training on Operation Safe Outcomes.

🀝 The Arc of South Carolina for their advocacy and dedication to empowering individuals with disabilities and their families with their ALERT training.

We also want to recognize and thank the many first responders from Pickens County and surrounding communities who took time to attend this training. Your willingness to learn, collaborate, and better understand autism and neurodiversity demonstrates your commitment to serving all members of our community with compassion and professionalism.

A special thank you to our community vendors and resource partners:

βœ”οΈMobile Crisis Unit
βœ”οΈ Family Connection of South Carolina
βœ”οΈSafeline of Pickens County

Your presence and willingness to share resources help connect families with critical supports that can make a meaningful difference in their lives.

As a parent of autistic adults and a mental health professional, I know firsthand that safety is built through relationships, education, and community collaboration. Events like this remind us that we are stronger when we work together.

Thank you for helping us fulfill our mission of Bridging Care, Connection, and Community.

Together, we are creating a safer, more informed, and more inclusive future for autistic individuals and their families.

πŸ’™ With gratitude,
The Upstate Carolina Autism Associates Team

This May, for Mental Health Awareness Month, Upstate Carolina Autism Associates is reminding our community:
πŸ’š You are not alone.
πŸ’š Support exists.
πŸ’š Mental health care should be accessible, practical, and neuroaffirming.
πŸ’š Community resources matter.
πŸ’š Asking for help is a strength.
For autistic children, teens, adults, and caregivers, mental health support often includes more than talk therapy. It may include:
βœ… Emotional regulation support
βœ… Sensory awareness
βœ… Executive functioning skills
βœ… Family communication tools
βœ… Caregiver education
βœ… Community connection

Caregiver burnout does not mean you are failing. πŸ’š

It means you’ve been carrying a lot for a long time β€” emotionally, mentally, and physically. Supporting others while trying to hold everything together is hard.

You deserve support, rest, and compassion too. Taking care of yourself is not selfish; it’s necessary.
