This one goes against what most people think β so stick with me.
After a deep tissue or trigger point session, please don't stretch right away.
I know that feels wrong. The tissue feels open, your range of motion is better, and the instinct is to take advantage of that. But here's what's actually happening after deep work: your nervous system is in reset mode. The neuromuscular connection between your brain and your muscles is recalibrating. That process takes about 24 hours.
Stretching in that window interrupts the reset. You're overriding the therapeutic change your therapist just spent an hour creating.
Wait a day. Then stretch. Your flexibility will be noticeably better, and β more importantly β the results from the session will hold longer.
This is one of the post-session guidelines I give every client at Grateful Hands Massage, because the work doesn't stop when you get off the table. How you treat the next 24 hours matters.
