Death of a Pastors Wife on Netflix is a story of Narcisstic and religious abuse. If you are not clear about the signs of a Narcisst:
- superficially charming, attention seeking, enjoys occupying position of authority
- habitual liars and cheaters, prone to betrayal,
- very interested in perception of them and peripheral relationships rather than who they actually are as a person and closest intimate relationships
- demonstrates abusive behavior that might be physically, mentally, sexually or emotionally harmful
- likely demonstrates behavior consistent with coercive control
- likely to have other addictive behaviors
- often lacks accountability and emotional depth
- very good at and likely enjoys manipulating others
- might also demonstrate obsessive, harassing, stalking behavior towards victims or survivors particularly if they speak out about abuse
-may also engage in smearing of victim/ survivor most often indicating that victim/ survivor is mentally ill, often also practices DARVO asserting they are the victim
- often so not want to change, will not see any issue with their behavior, usually will not go to therapy or really engage in deep work on themselves might go to therapy but will usually use it to manipulate their survivor
- often times they will escalate their behavior if survivor leaves or exposes them. Will be physically violent, stalk harass with the goal of destabilizing, isolating or encouraging client to harm themselves.
Of note; often times narcissistic people are superficially charming so many times they have friends and long term relationships that will not identify them as abusive. Even if people close to them do recognize their behavior as abusive they likely are enablers so they will not confront them. Please do not ever think that because someone has a lot of close friends that seem like decent people that means someone is a healthy non abusive person. Often times the most dangerous people DO NOT appear to be dangerously ad all.
