Are you or do you know someone who is having breastfeeding difficulties and their baby was "checked" for tongue ties by peeking in the mouth and dismissed or never checked at all? Or there are also "hidden" posterior ties. Tongue Ties can cause symptoms like reduced milk supply, poor milk transfer, painful latch, slow weight gain, reflux, popping off the breast, clicking and other issues. Doctors and nurses have good intentions but typically do not receive any training in college on how to check for tongue ties. Even many Lactation Consultants often do not get hands on, in person training on how to properly check for ties and assess oral function. Fortunately, Loratadine or Claritin is approved for use in breastfeeding moms. See medical studies on Lact Med website. But it's best to avoid any allergy meds with decongestants since they can reduce your milk.
