Happy Disability Pride Month, Easthampton!

This month, we're celebrating the people with disabilities who are an important part of what makes our community so special.

Disability Pride Month is a chance to celebrate disability as a natural part of human diversity and to keep working toward a community where everyone feels welcome, included, and able to participate.

Here's to celebrating our neighbors, embracing inclusion, and making Easthampton an even better place for everyone. Happy Disability Pride Month!

Celebrate Disability Pride Month with our local Commissions on Disability! Northampton, Amherst and Easthampton CODs are hosting kid's story events all month long.

Disability Pride Month is an opportunity to recognize the diversity, achievements, and lived experiences of people with disabilities. Through stories, we hope to inspire understanding, empathy, and a celebration of every person's unique perspective.

July is Disability Pride Month and the Easthampton Commission on Disability is celebrating with an Inclusive Kids Story Hour.

What: Kids Story Hour in Celebration of Disability Pride Month
When: Sunday, July 26, 1:00–2:00 p.m.
Where: 50 Arrow Gallery, Eastworks, 116 Pleasant Street, Suite 136, Easthampton, MA
Cost: Free

The event will feature guest readers with disabilities sharing engaging stories that highlight diverse disabled characters and experiences. Designed for children and adults alike, the program aims to foster inclusion, celebrate disability identity, and encourage meaningful conversations through the joy of storytelling.

In addition to story time, attendees can enjoy snacks and an opportunity to connect with community members in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Admission is free, and all members of the community are welcome.

Stavros Center for Independent Living presented at our last Commission meeting. Check out their website for more information about the services they provide, including their Wheelchair Operations Program which provides loaner wheelchairs and simple repairs at home. If you don’t qualify for their program they will connect you with a Durable Medical Equipment Provider to repair your chair. https://www.stavros.org/

The Easthampton Commission on Disability invites community members to attend our next meeting on Thursday, January 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This meeting will be hybrid:

In person: 50 Payson Ave, Easthampton

Via Zoom: Virtual attendance is welcome

The Commission works to identify barriers, advise city leadership, and advocate for accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities in Easthampton. Public participation is encouraged.

The Easthampton Commission on Disability invites all community members to join us for our monthly meeting:

Whether you live with a disability, support someone who does, or simply care about accessibility and inclusion in our city — your voice matters. We’ll be discussing current initiatives, community concerns, and ways to make Easthampton more accessible for EVERYONE.
