BIG NEWS! Plan B is now available at Orcas Village Store!!

Located at the ferry landing, partnering with OVS means folks who aren't near town have easier access to resources in their own neck of the woods. We’re so excited to continue expanding access to free emergency contraception on island and this makes our 6th stock site, joining Country Corner, Ray's Pharmacy, Orcas Food Co-op, Orcas Community Resource Center & Peach Pit.

As a reminder, you don't need an ID to receive Plan B, all you have to do is ask the folks at the register and let them know you're with OISHA :)

Thank you Orcas Village Store! Now to figure out a stock site on the east side of the island...

We’ve received a lot of clinical intake requests recently! It's exciting to see folks reaching out and prioritizing their care, and we just want to give a little update:

Our partners at Salish Sea Medical are working hard to get everyone scheduled and are doing their very best to fit folks in as quickly as they can. If you’ve submitted an intake request, thank you so much for your patience while they work through everything! If you need additional support in the meantime or have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us and we'll do our best to help.

One quick reminder: Salish Sea Medical is not currently providing primary care services to OISHA patients. OISHA-supported appointments are for s*xual and reproductive healthcare services and a full list of available services are listed on our website. Thank you for trusting us with your care, and thank you for your patience as we work to make sure everyone is getting the care they need. 💜

A big thank you to Nawal Umar & everyone who joined us for our SIECUS event this past week! 💜

We’re so grateful to Darvill's Bookstore for welcoming us into their space and helping make the evening possible, and especially to Nawal for sharing her time & knowledge.

It was such a great conversation about what’s happening both nationally and here in Washington when it comes to s*x education. We learned about the legislation & policies shaping s*x education curriculum and what we can do to keep advocating for young people’s access to accurate, comprehensive information.

Thank you to everyone who came out & for the continued support of this work. If you weren’t able to join us, check out the work SEICUS is doing! There’s lots to learn and plenty of ways to get involved.

Did you know:
📚 Only 27 states require s*x education to be medically accurate & only 5 states require comprehensive s*x education?
🩸 Just 4 states require instruction on menstrual health beyond basic puberty education.

This leaves millions of young people with incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate information about their bodies, relationships, and health. That's why we're so excited to welcome Nawal Umar, Senior Policy Analyst at SIECUS, to Orcas!

Join OISHA at Darvill's for an engaging talk exploring the current landscape of s*x education policy on the national and WA state level. We'll discuss legislative trends, what's changing, what's at stake, and why medically accurate, inclusive s*x education matters. The presentation will be followed by a community Q&A. Have a questions? Drop a comment or message us and we'll make sure it's addressed in the talk!

SIECUS (S*xuality Information and Education Council of the United States) is a national organization advancing comprehensive s*x education through advocacy, policy, and coalition building. In her role, Nawal Umar tracks local, state, and federal legislation related to s*x education and broader s*xual and reproductive health issues. She helps shape policies that prioritize medically accurate information, consent, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and reproductive health access.

Whether you're a parent, educator, healthcare provider, student, or just curious about the future of s*x education, we hope you'll join us on Tuesday, August 4! Refreshments will be provided.

Thanks to everyone who came out for our Hang N Help Happy Hour last week! 😊 🤝🍻

We put together about 90 kits filled with supplies and resources that will be heading out to island summer camps staff and counselors this season.

We're excited for more community events this summer and are always looking for more folks who are interested in helping out.

For the past two weeks, the OISHA Teen Reps presented to the high school health class on STIs, pregnancy prevention and contraception. They led the class in interactive games, performed skits and gave presentations.
We are so proud of all the work they’ve done this year to help ensure their peers learn accurate information about their bodies! All the dedication called for an ice cream celebration.
