FOOD SPOTLIGHT: YELLOW ÑAME
🍠 Yellow Ñame (also called Guinea Yam or Jamaican Yam) is an incredibly nutrient-dense tuber that provides long-lasting and slow-burning energy. It's packed with complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and essential micronutrients like potassium, vitamin C, and manganese, making it an excellent addition to a healthy, active diet. When you eat this Golden Root Veggie, you can look forward to:
⚡️Sustained Energy Levels: The high complex carbohydrate content provides a slow, steady release of fuel, preventing rapid blood sugar spikes while keeping you energized.
❣️ Heart Health: High levels of potassium combined with dietary fiber help regulate blood pressure and promote cardiovascular function.
🧻 Improved Digestion: Its dense dietary fiber promotes regular bowel movements, prevents constipation, and supports a healthy gut microbiome.
💪 Immune & Antioxidant Support: It is a great source of vitamin C and contains natural antioxidants which help reduce inflammation and combat oxidative stress.
🧠 Brain Function: Specific compounds in Yellow Ñame, such as diosgenin, are researched for their potential to promote neuron growth and enhance memory and cognitive performance.
🔪 These tubers may look a little funky and intimidating at first, but they'll grow on you pretty quickly. Rather than using a vegetable peeler, a knife is best to slice off the outer peel and discard it. It can feel a little slimy, so you may need a kitchen towel to help hold it in place. Then, chop it up, rinse it, and treat it just like a potato!
🥣 In our home, we often enjoy oven roasted Yellow Ñame with Garlic and Onions or Loaded Yellow Ñame Soup with Celery, Carrots, Fresh Tomatoes, Turkey Bacon, and Garden Greens. We love to top it with Freshly Chopped Raw Garlic, Coconut Unsweetened Yogurt, diced jalapeños, and Chopped Scallions!
🛒 Will you be a Brave Foodie and add Yellow Ñame to your grocery list this week? If you do, let us know how much you loved it!
Enjoy your Food, my Friends!
