Small Nutrition Changes Can Improve Mental Health
Mental health is influenced by many factors, and nutrition is one powerful piece of the puzzle.

You don't have to overhaul your diet overnight. Start with small steps:
✔️ Add one vegetable per meal
✔️ Include protein with breakfast
✔️ Reduce ultra-processed foods
✔️ Support gut health
✔️ Stay hydrated

Over time, these habits can support better mood, improved energy, and overall mental wellness.

Protein and Neurotransmitters

Protein provides amino acids that are the building blocks for neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine.

Without adequate protein intake, the body may struggle to produce the chemicals responsible for:
• Motivation
• Mood stability
• Focus
• Emotional regulation
Protein sources include:
🍗 Chicken
🐟 Fish
🥚 Eggs
🥜 Nuts and seeds
🌱 Legumes

Balanced meals that include protein can support mental and emotional health.

Ultra-Processed Foods and Mood
Studies increasingly show that ultra-processed foods are associated with higher rates of depression and anxiety.

These foods often contain:
• Excess sugar
• Artificial additives
• Inflammatory oils
• Low nutrient density

Whole foods provide vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber that support brain function and emotional regulation.

Think more foods from the earth, fewer foods from a package.

Anyone else watch reality TV and immediately start analyzing the psychology behind it? 👀
I’ll admit it… I’m a reality TV ju**ie. But I watch it through a human behavior lens.
Shows like The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives highlight relationship patterns we often see in real life too — things like manipulation, control, and toxic cycles.
One pattern that sometimes shows up is when someone begins improving their life or getting new opportunities, and a past partner feels threatened by that growth.
That can lead to behaviors like:
• sabotage
• guilt or pressure
• attempts to create a permanent bond
• controlling dynamics
Healthy relationships support growth — they don’t try to hold someone back.
If you or someone you know feels stuck in a pattern like this, know that support is available and change is possible.
