March 16-22 is Brain Awareness Week 🧠—a time to highlight the incredible role the brain plays in how we think, feel, and heal. At Tanya Trujillo Psychiatry, patient-driven care means partnering with you to support brain health in a way that fits your life, values, and goals.

Brain facts:
• The human brain contains about 86 billion neurons communicating through trillions of connections.
• It uses roughly 20% of your body’s energy, even though it’s only about 2% of your body weight.
• Your brain can adapt and rewire itself throughout life (a process called neuroplasticity).
• Getting enough sleep, exercise, and good nutrition helps keep your brain healthy.
• Mental stimulation—reading, learning new skills, solving puzzles—helps strengthen brain function.

Show your brain some love by reading something new, learning something new, exercising, and taking care of your mental well-being. 💙💛

March 1st is International Self-Injury Awareness Day. For many, self-harm/self-injury becomes a coping skill and a way to manage overwhelming emotions, numbness, trauma, anxiety, depression, shame, or feelings that seem too heavy to carry alone.

Psychologically, self-harm can create a temporary sense of relief. When someone is in intense emotional distress, the brain looks for any way to regulate it. Physical pain can momentarily distract from emotional pain. It can release endorphins. It can create a feeling of control when everything else feels chaotic.
But that relief is short-lived — and the cycle can deepen feelings of guilt, isolation, and hopelessness.

If you’re struggling:You are not broken. You are not weak. And you are not alone.
There is help. There are people who care. Healing is possible — even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.

If you or someone you know is self-harming, reaching out can feel scary, but support is available. Call us at Tanya Trujillo Psychiatry today to schedule an appointment. Mental healthcare you can trust, support you can feel. 915-289-9650

Love doesn’t always look like roses and candlelight. 🌹✨
Sometimes it looks like setting boundaries.
Sometimes it looks like resting when you’re tired.
Sometimes it looks like starting over.
Love can be loud and grand, shared in laughter and long embraces.
But it can also be quiet and deeply personal — like choosing yourself when it would be easier not to.
This Valentine’s Day, remember:
Love looks different on everyone.
It might be partnership. It might be friendship. It might be healing. It might be growth.
And sometimes, the most powerful love of all is showing up for yourself.
Keeping promises to yourself.
Protecting your peace.
Honoring your worth.
Because when you choose to stand by yourself — fully, fiercely, and unapologetically —
that’s love in its purest form. 💌💝. #915

This month, we shine a light on the strength it takes to speak up, open up, and reach out.
🧠 1 in 4 men experience a mental health challenge each year — but far too many suffer in silence.
💬 Talking about it isn’t weakness — it’s courage.
🤝 Checking in on your friends could save a life.
Let’s break the stigma, one conversation at a time.
Real strength is asking for help when you need it. đź’Ş
