Where did Rx Come From?
Ever wonder why prescriptions are marked with "Rx"?
The symbol is believed to have originated from the Latin term recipe, which was traditionally written at the beginning of medical orders. Physicians used it as an instruction indicating that the pharmacist should prepare or dispense the ingredients listed in the prescription. Over time, the term was abbreviated into the familiar Rx symbol that remains widely recognized in healthcare today.
Although modern prescriptions look much different than they did centuries ago, the Rx symbol continues to represent the connection between patients, prescribers, and pharmacists.
