Your inner world is not one single voice.

Different parts of you can hold different thoughts, emotions, and roles. Some may try to protect you, while others carry past experiences or unmet needs.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps you understand these parts with curiosity instead of judgment, creating space for more clarity and balance.

Some of what you carry has been carried before you.

Intergenerational trauma isn't just about family patterns. It's shaped by forces much larger than any one household. Racism, gender-based violence, colonization, redlining, criminalization. These weren't accidents. They were policies. And the pain they caused gets passed forward through bodies, relationships, and silence - often without anyone ever naming what's happening.

If you've ever felt like you were carrying a grief that didn't fully belong to you, or a vigilance that doesn't quite match your own life experience, this post is for you.
In the latest Mosaic Bloom blog, I explore what intergenerational trauma actually is, why the social and political context can't be separated from healing, and how EMDR and IFS therapy create space to go deeper, honoring the full story, not just the individual one.

Because healing is possible when the whole picture is seen.

Some of what you carry has been carried before you. Intergenerational trauma β€” the transmission of traumatic stress across generations β€” is real, documented, and deeply shaped by the social and political forces that have acted on your family across time. Understanding this kind of trauma means l...

Memories can stay intense when they are not fully processed by the brain.

Instead of feeling like something in the past, they can show up in the present through strong emotions, physical reactions, or a sense of urgency. This is not about weakness. It is how the nervous system holds onto experiences that have not yet been integrated.

EMDR helps the brain process these memories so they feel less overwhelming and more grounded in the past.

Trauma can sometimes feel like it stays with you, even when time has passed.

EMDR helps the brain process experiences that feel stuck so they become less overwhelming and easier to carry. The focus is on working at a pace that feels manageable, with support and structure throughout.

Over time, this can create more clarity, relief, and a greater sense of safety.

Now forming: a weekly clinical supervision group for therapists of color working toward licensure in PA, NJ, and DE. Facilitated by Marquita Bolden, LCSW.

This is a space to bring your whole self to the work. Lead through an anti-racist, feminist, and trauma-informed lens, and grounded in EMDR and Internal Family Systems, the group makes room for deep clinical processing, cultural wisdom, professional community, and identity affirmation.

We hold space for the dynamics BIPOC clinicians navigate, honor the ancestral strengths and lived experience you bring, and build a network where your intersecting identities are validated and your voice is amplified.

Tuesdays, 4 to 5 pm ET, virtual, $50 per weekly session.

If this feels like the kind of supervision you have been looking for, I would love to hear from you. Learn more and reach out through the interest form at https://mosaicbloomcounseling.com/clinical-supervision/

Survival mode does not always look dramatic. For many people, it looks like pushing through the day while feeling constantly drained, alert, or disconnected.

Your nervous system can stay in this state long after a stressful experience has passed, especially when stress has been ongoing or repeated.

These patterns are not personal failures. They are signs your body has been working hard to protect you.

With the right support, the nervous system can begin to shift out of survival mode and into a more regulated state.
