ROOTED WISDOM | Plant Medicine
Convenience Isn't Always the Answer
I hear it all the time:
“Can I just get that as a tincture?”
Sometimes, absolutely. Tinctures have their place, and I use them often in my practice.
But sometimes I choose a tea or long infusion for a reason.
And I think this brings up a much bigger conversation about convenience.
We’ve become a microwave society. We want everything quick, easy, portable, and requiring as little disruption to our day as possible.
But that same way of living may be part of what brought us here.
You cannot expect to heal while continuing to live exactly the same way you did while your body was becoming depleted, overwhelmed, or out of balance.
Sometimes supporting your health requires you to change your life around your healing instead of trying to fit your healing conveniently into your life.
Maybe that means getting up a little earlier to prepare an infusion. Maybe it means remembering to steep your herbs before bed. Maybe it means cooking instead of grabbing something on the way home. Going outside. Going to bed earlier. Creating space to rest. Saying no. Slowing down.
And yes, sometimes it means drinking the tea instead of taking the dropperful.
People tell me, “I just don't have time.”
But when your body is already asking for support, perhaps the question isn't "How can I make this more convenient?"
Perhaps it's:
"What needs to change so that caring for my body becomes a priority?"
We spend so much of our lives chasing more time while choosing the things that save us five minutes here and ten minutes there.
Then eventually the body asks us to give some of that time back.
Herbalism isn't always about finding the quickest remedy.
Sometimes the ritual itself is part of the medicine.
The preparation.
The slowing down.
The consistency.
The intention.
The decision that your health is worthy of your time.
Stop asking only, “What's easiest for me?”
Start asking, “What is best for me?”
Because healing may require more than changing what you take.
It may require changing how you live.
