Is your child visually ready for school? 👀📚

20/20 eyesight is only part of the picture. School success depends on functional vision skills that help children read, write, stay on task, copy information, coordinate movement, and make sense of what they see.

Some signs a child may be struggling include:

- Skipping lines while reading
- Poor reading comprehension
- Difficulty spelling
- Reversing letters or numbers
- Trouble lining up numbers in columns
- Difficulty catching a ball
- Trouble staying focused on schoolwork

These signs do not automatically mean a functional vision problem is present, but they can be a reason to look deeper.

A Functional Vision Evaluation at Vision Development of WNY looks beyond 20/20 eyesight to evaluate how the eyes track, focus, work together, and process visual information.

Could a vision problem be making school, sports, or everyday tasks harder than they should be? 👀

A child can have 20/20 eyesight and still struggle with the visual skills needed to read, write, focus, and coordinate movement.

Some signs that may be worth a closer look include:

- Reading below grade level
- Difficulty spelling
- Reversing numbers or letters
- Low reading comprehension
- Sloppy handwriting
- Trouble with eye-hand coordination
- Attention or behavior difficulties during schoolwork
- Avoiding catching a ball, sports, or riding a bike
- Frequently bumping into objects or seeming unusually clumsy

These signs do not automatically mean a functional vision problem is present, but they can be a reason to look beyond a standard eye exam.

A Functional Vision Evaluation at Vision Development of WNY looks at how the eyes track, focus, work together, and process visual information.

If your child is struggling and you’re not sure why, it may be time for a deeper look at how their vision is functioning.

Could ADHD-like symptoms be a functional vision problem in disguise? 👀

Some functional vision problems can cause symptoms that look similar to attention or learning difficulties, especially during reading and schoolwork.

Signs may include:

✅Losing your place while reading
✅Skipping words or lines
✅Headaches or eye strain
✅Trouble focusing on close work
✅Avoiding reading
✅Difficulty keeping attention on visually demanding tasks

If reading or schoolwork seems harder than it should, a functional vision evaluation may help determine whether vision is part of the problem.

Why Crawling Affects Your Child’s Vision
Did your child skip crawling? That developmental milestone matters more than you think. Crawling helps develop eye coordination and depth perception—key visual skills for reading, sports, and focus.

Without it, children may struggle with:
• Reading fluency
• Hand-eye coordination
• Balance & depth perception

These could be signs of Binocular Vision Dysfunction.
