Let this be your reminder to schedule your next doctor’s appointment.

Whether you’re due for an annual physical, need to follow up on a health concern, or simply haven’t checked in with your physician in a while, making time for your health is always a good idea.

Dr. D’Amico’s vision for the practice has always centered on a simple belief: good medicine requires time, trust, and a genuine understanding of the person behind the patient.

Our practice was built around that philosophy, creating an environment where physicians have the time to listen, relationships can develop over years rather than individual appointments, and preventive care is just as important as treating existing conditions.

We also embrace the evolution of medicine, bringing together established clinical principles and emerging treatments that are carefully evaluated for their safety, effectiveness, and relevance to each patient’s health.
The goal is to provide thoughtful, responsive care that evolves with patients and supports their health through every stage of life.

When it comes to breast cancer, there are a few important things that often get overlooked in conversations about prevention and screening.

First, most women who develop breast cancer have no family history of the disease. While genetics and family history are important risk factors, they represent only part of the picture.

Breast density is another factor worth understanding. Dense breast tissue can make abnormalities more difficult to identify on a mammogram and is independently associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. Your mammography report should include information about your breast density, which can help guide conversations about your individual risk.

And while routine mammograms are generally recommended beginning at age 40 for women at average risk, certain factors, including inherited genetic mutations or a strong family history, may warrant a different screening schedule.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, consider asking your physician two questions: What is my individual breast cancer risk, and is my current screening plan appropriate for that risk?

We’ve all done it. A new symptom shows up, and within minutes, you’re on Google trying to figure out what it means.

Looking up a symptom isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It can help you find the right language to describe what you’re experiencing, learn what questions to ask, or recognize when something may deserve medical attention.

The problem is when searching turns into self-diagnosing.

Many symptoms, from fatigue and headaches to dizziness, digestive changes, or trouble sleeping, can have dozens of possible explanations. Online, those possibilities are presented without the context of your health history, medications, recent lab work, risk factors, or the other symptoms you may be experiencing.

That’s usually where the rabbit hole begins.

Use the internet to become more informed, not more certain. And when a symptom is new, persistent, worsening, concerning, or simply doesn’t feel right, reach out to your physician. Sometimes a conversation with someone who knows your health is far more useful than another hour of searching.

Flu shots have arrived, which makes this a good time to look at the bigger picture of respiratory virus protection heading into fall and winter.

Flu, RSV, and COVID-19 are often discussed together, but the vaccination recommendations for each are different. Some are broadly recommended each year, while others depend much more on age, health history, immune status, pregnancy, previous vaccination, and individual risk.

We put together a quick guide to help make those differences a little easier to understand.

A note before you swipe: these are general recommendations and are meant for educational purposes. Vaccination decisions should always be made with your physician, who can take your complete medical history and individual risk factors into account.

If you’re a D’Amico Medicine patient and aren’t sure what you’re due for this season, talk to us. And if a flu shot is on your list, we now have them available in the office.

Not every IV infusion is designed to do the same thing, and the right one depends on what your body actually needs.

Maybe you’re looking for hydration after travel or exercise. Maybe recovery or energy is the priority. Or perhaps there’s a specific nutrient need that should be addressed more intentionally.

At D’Amico Medicine, IV wellness isn’t about choosing whatever happens to be trending. With different formulations and add-ons available, the conversation starts with your health, your goals, and what makes sense for you.

The right IV isn’t necessarily the one with the longest ingredient list. It’s the one selected with purpose.

Sometimes the most important part of healthcare is simply being able to reach your physician.

Questions don’t always come up during an appointment. A symptom changes, a medication feels different, or something happens and you’re not sure whether it warrants a visit.

For us, the physician-patient relationship extends beyond the exam room. Dr. D’Amico stays closely involved in his patients’ care, giving them a direct line to someone who already understands their history, medications, and the bigger picture of their health.

It’s a more personal approach to medicine, built around time, communication, and continuity of care.

Your labs can tell us a lot. But a number on a page is only part of the picture.

Blood work becomes most useful when it’s interpreted alongside your symptoms, medical history, medications, lifestyle, and how those markers have changed over time.

Sometimes the important finding isn’t simply whether something falls inside or outside a reference range, it’s understanding what that result means for you.

The goal isn’t more testing. It’s the right testing, with the right context and we’re here to help you do that!

Bears football is officially back, which means Chicago is once again entering a season of optimism, questionable blood pressure, and a few Sundays that may put our stress response to work.

It felt like the perfect time to revisit something we recently shared with our patients: cortisol and the adrenal glands.

Cortisol gets talked about constantly right now, especially in conversations around stress, fatigue, sleep, weight, and “adrenal health.” But cortisol isn’t inherently bad. We need it. What matters is whether your body is producing the right amount at the right time, and understanding why when something seems off.

So as the Chicago Bears get ready to test Chicago’s collective nervous system for another season, we’re breaking down what cortisol actually does, what happens when levels are too high or too low, and why symptoms should be evaluated in the context of your overall health.

Here’s to a healthy season ahead, with hopefully a little less stress along the way.
