Another cool air polishing case!

Braces can make brushing and flossing more challenging, which is why education and professional biofilm removal are so important throughout treatment.

What you’re seeing in the first photo isn’t a stain—it’s biofilm!

The purple areas have been highlighted with a disclosing solution, making it easy for both our team and our patient to see exactly where plaque and biofilm have accumulated around the braces.

Using EMS Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT), we were able to gently and thoroughly remove the biofilm while helping our patient better understand where extra attention is needed at home.

Did you know a dental cleaning can be a learning experience too? 🦷✨

One of the things we love most about EMS Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is how it helps educate our youngest patients about their oral health. The gentle airflow technology makes dental plaque (biofilm) easier to see, understand, and remove, giving children a visual connection between their brushing habits and their oral health.

By showing kids where biofilm collects and explaining why it matters, we can help them build healthy habits that last a lifetime. Plus, the comfortable, minimally invasive cleaning experience helps make dental visits more positive and less intimidating.

Remember doing this in elementary school?

One of the neat things about our new GBT air polishing system is we’re bringing back the plaque disclosing products.

Before getting their teeth cleaned, patients young and old get to take a look at where plaque is hiding on their teeth - commonly along the gum line, in between the teeth, or even isolated to a specific area.

The plaque (and disclosing solution) is then gently removed from the teeth with airflow technology.

We hope you get to try it out the next time you’re in!

Nicole and Taylor are now officially trained in Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) with EMS and were able to start implementing it this week. 🎓

This system uses air polishing technology to clean teeth in a way that’s

Yesterday, Dr. Hauswirth led her last meeting as President of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry’s Alumni Association. She is pictured with the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Clark Stanford.

The Alumni Association consists of a group of dentists who are dedicated to supporting the University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry and ensuring a strong future of dental excellence in our state.

Our state’s dental program is one of the best in the country, with students seeing more live patients and completing more procedures prior to graduation than anywhere else in the country!
