Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... ✨

What a whirlwind of a month it has been at San Diego Midwife! Our hearts (and our birth bags) are completely full. Last week gave Jamin and Kashema the ultimate hat-trick of love, welcoming precious new souls into the world three days in a row! 👶🏼🤍

But the magic didn’t stop there.

There is nothing quite like the honor of being invited back into a family’s sacred space for a second time. Almost exactly five years ago, Jamin had the privilege of walking alongside this incredible mama as her midwife. Fast forward to last week, and history beautifully repeated itself.

Surrounded by the comforting walls of home, with dad and big sister (and their pup Panda) right by her side, this rockstar mama brought her sweet baby boy into the world in a peaceful water birth. Watching a big sister witness the magic of birth and welcome her baby brother is a moment we won’t soon forget. 😭🌊✨

To all of our families who trust us with these monumental moments, thank you. We are tired, we are inspired, and we are so incredibly grateful.

She didn’t know if she could do it… until she did.

First time mama, standing at the edge of something unknown, powerful, and honestly really scary at times. Labor asked everything of her. And she met it. Breath by breath. Wave by wave.

Her husband never wavered. Steady hands. Soft words. Fully there. The kind of presence that holds you up when your own strength feels far away.

Her mom was there too, until it got intense. And then, like so many mothers have to do when love and fear collide, she stepped out for some air, took the dog for a walk, gathered herself. Because sometimes it’s just too hard to watch your baby in that kind of intensity.

And then… she roared her baby out.

Not quietly. Not gently. But powerfully. Primal. Unapologetic.

When her mom came back, I met her downstairs and asked, “Do you want to come meet your granddaughter?”

Her eyes filled instantly.

Her baby… had a baby.

Watching them all come together, holding each other, crying, laughing, meeting this new little life, was one of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever witnessed.

This is birth.
Raw. Transformative. Generational.
And deeply, deeply human.

There is something about third babies… they come with their own plans (well, let’s be real.. all babies do) 🤍

This sweet mama thought she knew what to expect. After two births, you’d think you’ve seen it all. But this little one? A complete wildcard. The kind of birth that humbles you, stretches you, and reminds you that life doesn’t follow scripts.

It unfolded in ways she didn’t anticipate. Twists. Turns. A lot of deep breaths. A lot of surrender.

And in the middle of it all.. strength. The quiet, steady kind. The kind that rises when plans fall away. The kind that says, “I can do this,” even when the path looks different than imagined.

Their third baby didn’t just enter the world, he transformed it. For his parents. For his siblings. For their family.

Birth has a way of taking you for a loop… and then handing you something more beautiful than you could have planned.

There is something quietly powerful about a second baby being born at home.

The knowing.
The fear.
And then the trust.
That leads to surrender.
The way the body remembers.

This sweet girl arrived in the water, in the early hours, with her father catching her as she emerged. The midwife close by, watching, steady, holding space. No rush. No urgency. Just presence.

Her big brother slept in the next room through the night. Unaware that his world was changing. And then, as morning crept in, he woke up and met his baby sister for the very first time and then quickly exclaimed that he gets to go to Geppetto’s for sleeping through the night!

This is what home birth can look like.
Not dramatic. Not chaotic.
But deeply intentional.

Birth woven into family life.
Birth that honors connection.
Birth that lets love lead.

✨ Our first baby of 2026 with San Diego Midwife ✨

January 3, 2026 welcomed us into the year the best way possible.

Just five days earlier, we sat with this then soon to be mama at her prenatal visit. Past her estimated due date. Tired. Over it. And yet fully surrendered. Ready to let her body and her baby lead when the moment arrived.

When clinic wrapped up that day, the three of us looked at each other and quietly knew. We would be seeing her again before our next clinic on the 8th.

At 12:30am, her waters released.
Her first birth.
And it moved swiftly from the very beginning.

Worship music filled the space. The room felt calm, intentional, and deeply held.

At 3:43am, our student midwife Kashema caught this sweet baby girl. Gently floating her between her mother’s legs in the water, giving space for orientation and breath. Then with steady hands and a full heart, she turned and placed her baby on her chest.

A moment we will never forget.
A mother born.
A family transformed.

There’s something special about the 36 week home visit. It’s the moment everything starts to feel real in the best way possible. Instead of you coming to us, we come to your home so we can understand your space, see your environment, and get familiar with exactly where you’ll be settling in when labor begins.

Here’s what happens during this visit:

• We learn the layout of your home; where you rest, breathe, nest, and feel safest. This helps us move with confidence on your birthing day. No guessing. No searching for supplies. We already know your flow and how to support it.

• Connect with your birth team; whether your team is your partner, a doula, a friend, a family member, or simply you and your midwives, we honor it. If someone else will be present, we get to meet them, understand their role, and make sure they feel comfortable too. And if you’re choosing a more intimate birth space with just the midwifery team, we show up with the same steady, grounded presence so you never feel alone. Every version of support is valid. Every circle is worthy.

• Review your birth supplies together; we go through everything on your list, make sure you’re stocked, and help you fine tune any last details. Clients often say this is where the final wave of “okay… I’m actually ready” sets in.

• Walk through what to expect on the birthing day; when to call, what early labor may look like, how we blend into your rhythm when things intensify, and how we protect the calm in your space. We talk through your wishes and make sure your support team knows exactly how we work around you.

• Prepare for immediate postpartum; from the golden hour to newborn checks to placenta delivery and settling you into bed, we cover what those first hours will feel like. It helps soften any anxiety and gives you a real picture of how held you’ll be.

The 36 week home visit isn’t just logistics. It’s connection. It’s grounding. It’s your midwife walking into your space and saying, “I’m with you. I know your home. I know your people. And when the day comes, we’ll already feel like a team.”

There’s something bittersweet about the “final” postpartum visits. It’s the quiet closing of a chapter that began long before labor ever started; back when these families were in the throws of early pregnancy and first said yes to being held, seen, and supported by us.

Today we got to witness two mothers standing taller. More sure of themselves. More rooted in who they are becoming.

Postpartum isn’t a finish line. It’s definitely an unfolding.
And watching someone move from the early fog into their steady glow? That’s the part of midwifery you can’t put on a fee schedule.

To the families who came through our doors today:
your strength, your honesty, your softness; it honors this work in ways you may never know.

There’s nothing quite like watching a first-time mother meet the strength she never knew she carried.

No bright lights. No interruptions. Just rhythm, breath, instinct.
The air thick with trust; between her and her partner, her and her midwives, her and her own wild wisdom.

Birth at home isn’t about control. It’s about surrender.
It’s about the way her partner’s hands steady her hips through each wave. The way her team speaks in whispers, protecting her space. The way she roars from a place so deep, even the walls feel it.
•
This is primal.
It’s ancient.
It’s the dance of life and love intertwined.
•
And sometimes, surrender looks different than we imagined.
Sometimes it’s releasing the vision of birthing at home and walking through hospital doors with courage in your chest and trust still in your bones. That, too, is primal. That, too, is power.

✨ Six Weeks of Becoming ✨

Our final postpartum visit always carries that mix of tenderness and awe; the closing of one sacred chapter and the quiet unfolding of another.

We had the honor of walking with this beautiful family through their first pregnancy, birth, and those first tender weeks of parenthood. Watching their strength, trust, and love grow through it all has been such a gift.

This birthing mama’s words to me reminded me why midwifery is truly heart-work. The moments we share aren’t just clinical, they’re transformational. They’re about remembering power, reclaiming joy, and witnessing love being born.

Thank you, all 3 of you, for letting us be part of your story. You and your little one will always have a piece of our hearts. 💛
