Most of us learned COPD as a clean, simple concept in school.

Real life isn’t clean.

COPD patients don’t fit into neat categories. They exist along a spectrum of disease that includes elements of bronchitis, emphysema, and sometimes asthma.

That matters because your treatment should change based on what’s actually driving their distress.

A few reminders worth revisiting:

You’re not curing anything in the field
Your job is reducing work of breathing and improving ventilation
Wheezing is not your endpoint
NIV used early can prevent deterioration
