The Sight was never understood as ordinary intuition.
Intuition is the quiet feeling that warns you to turn back, trust someone, remain silent or pay closer attention. It is often shaped by experience, instinct and subtle details the conscious mind has not yet recognised.
The Sight was believed to reach beyond this.
Across mythology and folklore, seers described visions of spirits, distant places, approaching deaths, hidden betrayals and moments that had not yet happened. Some received symbolic dreams. Others saw images reflected in water, fire or dark mirrors. A few were struck by sudden waking visions they neither summoned nor controlled.
These experiences were rarely clear.
A seer might witness a funeral procession without knowing whose burial it foretold. A stranger could appear in a dream years before entering their life. A shadow surrounding someone might be interpreted as illness, danger or death, yet the vision offered no date and no explanation.
That uncertainty separated the Sight from simple fortune-telling.
The seer did not always receive a complete future. They were given fragments: a face, a sound, an animal, a road, a doorway or a single moment torn from a larger story.
The greatest burden was interpretation.
Was the vision a warning that could change events, or a fate already set in motion? Was the spirit truthful, symbolic or deceptive? Did speaking the prophecy protect someone, or help fulfil the very future the seer feared?
In old stories, the Sight was both gift and wound. It allowed a person to perceive what remained hidden from others, while forcing them to carry knowledge they could not always prove, explain or prevent.
Perhaps that is why true seers were not merely admired.
They were respected, questioned and feared.
To see beyond the visible world sounds powerful, until you realise that some doors cannot be closed once they have opened.
