The Parker Lee Project started right before my daughter, Parker Lee Reynolds passed away on October 20, 2012. Parker was born June 30, 2010 with Lissencephaly and Microcephaly. Over her short life she acquired many more diagnosis, equipment, and supplies. When she passed away she was tube fed dependent, had a trach, and was on oxygen full time. Her bedroom looked like a hospital room. During her t

ime as an angel on earth I struggling, argued, and screamed at doctor offices, insurance companies, and DME companies more times than I can count. I know first hand how hard it is try to get all the equipment and supplies that you need for your special needs child. As well as the struggle of finding agencies to help with these things or therapies. I learned more than my fair share through diligent research, caring for my daughter, and watching all my friends do the same for their children. At no cost to parents we would like to accept equipment and supplies that are no longer needed and provide them to new families who do for free.

The hardening of plastic extensions (typically made of PVC or polyurethane) is usually caused by lipid absorption and leaching. Over time, the fats in feeding formula migrate into the plastic, while the plasticizers (the chemicals that keep it flexible) leach out.

​To extend the life of your extensions and keep them pliable, you can try these maintenance steps:

​𝟭. 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴

​The most effective way to prevent hardening is to ensure no formula sits in the tube longer than necessary.

​Flush with Lukewarm Water:
After every feed or medication delivery, flush the extension with at least 5–10 mL of lukewarm water.

​The "Milk Fat" Factor:
Formula residue contains fats that react with the plastic. A thorough flush removes these lipids before they can pe*****te the tubing wall.

​𝟮. 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹

​Plastic polymers are sensitive to environmental stress.

​Avoid Hot Water:
Never use boiling or very hot water to flush or clean the extensions. High heat accelerates the breakdown of the plastic and can cause it to become brittle or cloudy.

​Storage:
Store unused extensions in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight (UV rays also degrade medical-grade plastics).

​𝟯. 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲

​Mild Soap Only:
If you are reusing extensions (per your clinical team’s guidance), use a very mild, fragrance-free dish soap.

​Avoid Harsh Chemicals:
Never use alcohol, bleach, or hydrogen peroxide on the tubing. These solvents strip the plasticizers rapidly, leading to "stiff" tubing and potential cracking.

Happy heavenly birthday, Parker! We miss you so much but love you more!

Another year…
As this moment fades for so many, as years continue, families grow, and just the daily hustle and bustle of life - this moment etches deeper in my soul. It’s not just the moment my life changed, it was the moment it began. Our brain protects us and can play memories like a movie reel of someone else’s life. But it’s ours. My movie hasn’t ended yet - it’s full of extreme lows but some pretty damn good highs. But my favorite part will always be the part with Parker. 💛

While I haven’t been on SM much, Kay and I have never stopped the hustle in the warehouse, in Parker’s name, doing anything we can for families near and far. Today is my birthday, and instead of candles and cake, I’m reflecting on impact.

Thirteen years ago thos month, The Parker Lee Project was born from love, loss, and the belief that people everywhere deserve access to basic medical care. Since then, together we’ve sent over $6 million in medical supplies and equipment to children and families who needed it most.

That number still takes my breath away.

But here’s the hard truth: doing this work isn’t free. Shipping, storage, and logistics all cost money — and right now, we desperately need donations to keep operating and continue this mission.

If TPLP has ever inspired you, helped someone you know, or reminded you that compassion still matters, I’m asking you to consider supporting us today. A birthday wish with real impact.

Feeling extra grateful today. Kay Spaniel Hibbs and I are packaging requests and it couldn’t be on a better day - giving Tuesday!
Grateful for all the years of being able to assist thousands and thousands of children and their families. Grateful for Kay for volunteering so much of her time and the years of friendship that came with. Grateful for my husband who busts his butt daily so I can even do this and not bring home a check. Grateful for years of emotional, physical, and energy support from so many of you. And grateful for the ones who donate to help keep us afloat - so we can continue to provide these essential medical supplies at no cost to the families!
