I'm thrilled to announce that starting on October 26th, there will be a mental health counselor offering services at The Rose Cottage! Very excited to have another allied health professional in the building.

In addition to counseling services offered by Brea, we have Dr. Janel - pediatric naturopath, Lijun - massage therapist, The Birth Collective - doula group, Midwife Alex and Midwife Brooke, Ultrasound technologist Ilya who offers pregnancy ultrasound as well as pelvic, breast and thyroid ultrasounds. And of course, me! Foothills Midwifery 💛

🎨 The Birth Cottage Children’s Art Contest 👶🌿

Several years ago, the child of one of my former clients drew a picture of me helping their family when their baby brother was born, it has remained one of my most prized possessions. Looking at the artwork again inspired me to invite more children to help fill The Birth Cottage with beautiful, meaningful art!

Theme: Welcome to the World

Children of current and former midwifery clients are invited to create artwork celebrating babies, birth, families, midwives, becoming a sibling or welcoming a new baby into the world. They may draw, paint, color, or create a collage. We would love to see what birth and babies look like through their eyes!

🏆 A prize will be awarded in each age group:

• Ages 4 and under
• Ages 5–8
• Ages 9–12
• Ages 13–17

🖼️ All entries will be displayed at The Birth Cottage, with yours and their permission.

Artwork requirements:
• Artwork should be either 5x7, 8 × 10, or 11 × 14 inches
• Portrait or landscape orientation is welcome
• Please submit artwork unframed
• Write the child’s first name and age on the back
• Include the parent’s contact information so we can send prizes!

Deadline: October 10, 2026

Artwork may be dropped off or mailed to:

Every baby deserves access to a newborn hearing screen. About 1 in 400 babies in the U.S. are born with detectable hearing loss in one or both ears. Hearing loss doesn’t always mean a baby can’t hear at all. Some babies may miss certain sounds, which is why newborn hearing screening matters.

The Birth Cottage offers initial and repeat hearing screens to families throughout our community. Had a community birth and still need a screen? Was your baby born in a hospital and needs a repeat screen? We’d be happy to see you.

We use a DPOAE hearing screening device that was granted by the Department of Health and we bill insurance for the service. Schedule through The Birth Cottage’s website.

Just a reminder that we offer both Interim Care and Co-Managed Care!

Foothills is currently full for births as we prioritize serving our repeat clients, but we are still welcoming new clients who are interested in either of these care options.

Interim Care is a great choice if you want to begin prenatal care sooner. You can have early appointments, lab work, and ultrasounds completed while waiting for an appointment with another obstetric provider. There is no commitment to continue care with us, and it can provide some much-needed reassurance during those early weeks.

Co-Managed Care is also a popular choice with about 1/4 of our clients choosing this: personalized midwifery care alongside hospital-based care. You’ll receive longer appointments, plenty of education and support, and postpartum care with us. You may also be able to request an early hospital discharge (six hours after birth), followed by a postpartum home visit from a Foothills midwife!

We take all major insurance plans, including Apple Health plans.

I placed an order for more Fresh Tests and noticed they have a new flavor, so of course we have to try it!

Strawberry Basil Lemonade will now be joining our Fresh Test options. 🍓🌿

The Fresh Test works the same way as the standard glucose drink used for gestational diabetes screening, but without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.

The original Mint Lemonade contains non-GMO dextrose, crystallized lemon, and organic peppermint. The new Strawberry Basil Lemonade contains non-GMO dextrose, organic freeze-dried strawberry, crystallized lemon, and organic basil.
