A sneak peek inside Alex's speech therapy appointment💬🎥

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is helping children like Alex find their voice in new ways. From simple picture boards to speech-generating devices (SGDs) like tablets, these tools give kids the ability to share their thoughts, needs and ideas when spoken communication is limited.

At Shriners Children’s Erie, AAC is tailored to each child through a collaborative, family-centered approach. Our team introduces a range of tools, from low-tech options to advanced systems, while providing hands-on training so families can support communication every step of the way.

When children can express themselves across different situations, it reduces frustration and builds confidence for them and their loved ones.

Today is World Clubfoot Day

Clubfoot is a condition where a baby’s foot appears twisted inward at the ankle. While clubfoot can run in families, it is not caused by anything done during pregnancy. In some cases, it may be associated with other conditions but often, it occurs on its own.

Clubfoot is a treatable condition. With options like casting, bracing and sometimes surgery, most children go on to live active lives with fully functioning feet. Care for clubfoot is available at Shriners Children’s Erie, where our team helps every child take confident steps forward.
