Today is a date that carries more than one story for me. Today would have been my parents' anniversary. As I've watched my dad navigate life after the loss of my mom, I've been reminded that grief doesn't disappear just because time passes.

A few reminders for anyone witnessing grief today:
*Be present, not perfect.
*Listen more than you speak.
*Don't be afraid to mention the person, relationship, or chapter that was lost.
*Honor important dates and anniversaries.
*Give yourself the same compassion you would offer someone else.
*Remember that grief and gratitude can exist together.

Today marked the first time since my mother-in-law’s passing that I visited her beloved weekly thrift store. I was doing well until I reached a particular section. The familiar trigger of grief washed over me as I recalled her and I, standing in front of fans one summer, wondering what might be residing within them. It’s important to acknowledge and accept the emotions that arise when we revisit places that hold sentimental value, as they can trigger grief.
