"I tried meditating once, but my mind just wouldn't shut off. I guess I’m just no good at meditation.”
If you’ve ever said this to yourself, I want to clear this up: You are not bad at meditation, and you don't need to force absolute mental silence for long periods of time for it to be helpful. 💜
When you’re already overwhelmed from juggling work, family, and daily stress, forcing yourself to sit for 30 minutes in complete silence can actually make you more stressed. The brain in overwhelm mode tends to naturally scramble to fill the quiet with all the to-do lists and worries.
That is why tying to do long periods of silent meditation often backfires for overwhelmed women.
So, what do you do? You have 2 options: 1) short periods of meditation while doing something like counting your breaths to help “occupy” your brain 2) guided meditation.
When you allow yourself to meditate for a short time (even as little as 2 or 5 minutes to start) then it doesn’t feel so intimidating, especially when you also add in counting your breaths.
When you listen to a guided meditation, your mind has a focal point. The soothing voice and intentional pacing work with your busy brain rather than fighting against it.
Next Steps:
✶ If you’re interested in learning more about how to start meditating in short bits, I have an article about that on my website.
✶ If you’re interested in trying out some guided meditation, I have a tree meditation for grounding that’s less than 5 min, and a meditation to connect with your crystal that’s less than 6 min on my YouTube channel.
✶ If meditation still isn’t what you want to do right now but you’d like to try to take an “energetic breather”, than I invite you to check out my free self-paced program Reclaim Your Radiance which includes a few guided audio sessions that also include some movement.
