Centers for Multiple Sclerosis The Centers for Multiple Sclerosis is a local nonProfit organization driven entirely by individual donations, foundation grants, and our annual gala.

Our Vision - To improve the quality of life for individuals affected by multiple sclerosis across Southwest Florida: including Naples, Estero, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, Charlotte County and more There are at least 1,500 MS patients in our services area (Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades Counties). $0 of our support is from government funding. $0 of our support is from national MS organizations. We provide individuals in our service area affected by MS access to a comprehensive wellness program not covered by insurance. Your involvement as a donor, volunteer, or spokesperson is greatly appreciated as it plays a significant role in supporting the Centers into the future and the services we provide.

Donor Advised Funds are a great way to easily and effectively manage your giving, while getting the most out of tax breaks.
A Simple Way to Support Centers for MS
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account that allows donors to make a contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction (if eligible), and then recommend grants to nonprofit organizations over time.
Think of a DAF as a charitable savings account. Funds are contributed to the account, invested for potential growth, and distributed to nonprofits whenever the donor chooses.

Could retraining the immune system change the course of MS?
A promising new approach is taking a different tack: instead of broadly suppressing the immune system, researchers are trying to teach it to leave myelin alone.

In an early clinical trial, scientists used patients’ own red blood cells, attached tiny pieces of myelin to them, and returned the modified cells to the bloodstream. The goal? Help the immune system recognize myelin as “self” rather than a target.

The results were encouraging: the treatment was generally well tolerated, appeared to increase immune-regulating cells, and was associated with lower levels of a blood marker linked to nerve damage. The study involved just 10 people with MS, however, so much more research is needed before we know whether this strategy can actually reduce disease activity or protect people from disability.

Still, the idea is intriguing: what if the future of MS treatment involves teaching the immune system, rather than simply suppressing it?

Check Out Our Featured Speakers for the Health & Wellness Symposium.

Registration is open for the Centers for Multiple Sclerosis second annual MS Health and Wellness Symposium on October 15, 2026; a free day-long educational seminar specifically designed for individuals living with MS, their loved ones, and caregivers. In addition to our Keynote Speaker, Steve Doerfler, we have four incredible experts in local multiple sclerosis services to share their insight and experience with you!

Each year, insurance companies and healthcare providers negotiate their contracts. A couple of local healthcare groups have announced non-renewals for 2027.

The biggest one for Lee County residents - Lee Health announced it will not be a United Healthcare in-network provider after Dec. 31, 2026. See Gulf Coast News' article on what UH customers should do to prepare for the change.
