# Wednesday Words...

It often takes an intentional "reprogramming" to change one's words that influence the thoughts that directly affect emotions. The human's mindset and emotional state filter the quality, clarity, relevancy, timing, awareness, empathy, and effectiveness of the physical communication offered to the horse.

Below are some basic examples for you to notice if any of the "from" thoughts sound familiar- and then experiment with practicing making an intentional mental shift "to" ways to better offer real-time support to the horse.

From->To

I have to-> I get to

I wonder if my horse will-> I can help my horse by

I hope my horse doesn't-> It is a learning Opportunity

Let's see if my horse will-> I can proactively help my horse by

Why is/does the horse always ->The horse is asking for help

No-> How about this (Positive Alternative)

I wish my horse would-> I can help my horse by

What are other "From" thoughts you may have that you can shift-> "To" actively supportive of the horse?

I absolutely love this!

One of the most beautiful things that can happen in a relationship with a horse is the moment you stop asking,

β€œHow do I get this horse to trust me?”

And start asking,

β€œHow do I become trustworthy?”

At first glance, those questions sound similar.

But they lead in very different directions.

The first focuses on the horse.

The second focuses on us.

How do I get the horse to come closer?

How do I get the horse to cooperate?

How do I get the horse to feel differently?

Those questions aren’t wrong.

Most of us have asked them.

I certainly have.

But over time, I became more interested in another possibility.

What if trust isn’t something we create inside another being?

What if trust is something that emerges when our actions become predictable, respectful, and safe?

A horse cannot force themselves to trust.

Any more than a human can.

Trust grows from experience.

From discovering that β€œno” is heard.

That fear is not punished.

That uncertainty is not met with pressure.

That honesty does not cost belonging.

I think this is one of the reasons trust can take so long.

Not because horses are stubborn.

But because trust is not built from our intentions.

It is built from their experiences.

And perhaps that is what makes trust so sacred.

It cannot be demanded.

It cannot be purchased.

It cannot be rushed.

It can only be earned.

One interaction at a time.

One moment of listening at a time.

One choice at a time.

Until one day the horse seems to realize:

β€œYou are not trying to control my experience.

You are trying to understand it.”

And from there, something extraordinary becomes possible.

Not obedience.

Not compliance.

Relationship.

People often ask why someone stayed. A better question is why someone felt entitled to deceive in the first place. Healing begins when we stop carrying responsibility for someone else's choices.

If you are a counselor and have a client that feels stuck, This is a great way to teach them to how to move the energy out of the body and clear the mind, which then creates body/mind coherence.
