Consumer wearables have done something remarkable: they made sleep a mainstream health metric. But there’s an important distinction that often gets overlooked. Most consumer wearables use peripheral signals—heart rate, HRV, movement, and temperature—to infer sleep stages.

Neurosom was granted its second patent in 2026 for a new technology that estimates how well the brain clears waste via the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This method builds on its earlier patent, which combined advanced brain monitoring techniques to create detailed maps of brain activity.
This new patent is significant because it grants Neurosom exclusive rights to a unique method for measuring the brain’s ability to remove metabolic waste—a process crucial for brain health.
According to CEO Viral Sheth, “Being able to measure CSF flow in the brain could become as important for brain health as checking cholesterol is for heart health.” This measurement could help identify when treatment is needed before any symptoms or damage occur.

Scientists discover anatomical "gates" that allow the brain to clear metabolic waste. A new study published in Cell (https://lnkd.in/ecVK3CzJ) identifies the anatomical pathway that enables the brain to use CSF to clear metabolic waste. The brain continuously produces waste that must be cleared to maintain healthy functioning. CSF, or cerebrospinal fluid, is known to clear these toxic wastes that are linked to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease. For the first time, scientists have been able to detail the exact anatomical structure in which these toxic wastes are flushed, known as glymphatic clearance.

Next week, Allison C. Waters, PhD, will help lead discussions at NYC Neuromodulation 2026 https://lnkd.in/edxBkjbw on one of the defining questions in our field: How personalized does brain stimulation really need to be?
At Neurosom, that question has guided years of engineering. Our recently patented Precision Brain Health Platform combines cutting-edge Bayesian statistical modeling with high-density EEG assessments and longitudinal brain recordings to build individualized brain models. These models estimate where brain activity originates and use that information to guide transcranial electrical stimulation (TES).
It’s an ambitious hypothesis. Now comes the part that matters most.
Together with Dr. Waters and the Neurobehavioral Therapeutics Program at Mount Sinai, we’re beginning to test whether these individualized models are biologically accurate—and whether greater precision translates into improved sleep physiology and better clinical outcomes.
