🔥 Today we honor and congratulate Firefighter/Paramedic Lonnie Voyles on his retirement! 🔥

After 23 years of dedicated, selfless service to the community of Eunice and Lovington, Firefighter/ Paramedic Lonnie Voyles is officially closing his chapter in the fire service and entering a well-deserved retirement.

Throughout his distinguished career, Lonnie has defined what it means to be a public servant. As one of the finest paramedics Eunice has ever had the privilege of fielding, he consistently set the standard for clinical excellence and emergency care. On every shift, and during most high-stress calls, Lonnie brought an unwavering combination of deep professionalism and genuine compassion to the citizens we protect.

Beyond his exceptional skills in the back of an ambulance, Lonnie has been a cornerstone of our department’s culture. His lightheartedness, humor, and ability to bring a sense of warmth to the station always lifted the spirits of his crews and fostered a true sense of brotherhood. He has been a mentor, a steady hand, and a reliable friend to everyone who wore the uniform alongside him.

While the department is deeply saddened to see such an integral member of our family step down, we are incredibly proud of his many accomplishments and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

Lonnie, thank you for your 23 years of sacrifice, vigilance, and brotherhood. We wish you nothing but health, happiness, and clear skies as you begin this next exciting chapter of your life.

Stay safe, brother.

🚨 City of Eunice Fireworks Enforcement Notice 🚨

The Eunice Fire Department, in partnership with the Eunice Police Department, will begin enforcement of the City of Eunice Fireworks Ordinance starting tonight and continuing throughout the week.

Our goal is to ensure a safe and enjoyable Independence Day for everyone by reducing the risk of fires, injuries, and property damage associated with the unlawful use of fireworks.

Under the City of Eunice Fireworks Ordinance, fireworks that are prohibited within the city limits include those that leave the ground, explode, or otherwise do not comply with the ordinance. Individuals found in possession or using illegal fireworks will be given the opportunity to voluntarily surrender the prohibited fireworks for destruction in lieu of receiving a citation.

Individuals who refuse to surrender illegal fireworks may be issued a citation. A violation of the ordinance is a criminal petty misdemeanor and, upon conviction, may result in a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to 90 days, or both, in accordance with City Ordinance No. 567.

Beginning July 4, 2026, the City Lake will serve as the designated Fireworks Safe Zone from dusk until 11pm, where members of the public are encouraged to enjoy the use of all fireworks in a safe environment.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping keep our community safe this Independence Day. Please celebrate responsibly, respect your neighbors, and help us prevent unnecessary fires and injuries.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

Odessa Fire Rescue Mourns the Loss of Firefighter Isai Huerta

ODESSA, Texas — Odessa Fire Rescue is mourning the tragic loss of one of its own following a structure fire on Sunday evening.

At 4:59 p.m., Odessa Fire Rescue crews responded to a residential trailer fire in the 1900 block of South Westcliff Road. While firefighters were operating on scene, conditions deteriorated rapidly, resulting in injuries to three firefighters.

All three firefighters were transported to Medical Center Hospital for treatment. Tragically, one firefighter succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The fallen firefighter has been identified as 29-year-old Lieutenant Isai Huerta, who faithfully served the citizens of Odessa as a member of Odessa Fire Rescue for the past nine years. His next of kin has been notified.

"Isai was a huge part of our organization, a true firefighter," said Odessa Fire Rescue Chief Jason Cotton. "He was always happy, always willing to help, and he truly enjoyed the job. Our department is in need of prayer, guidance, and grace as we navigate moving forward. We grieve alongside Isai's family and ask our community to keep them and our firefighters in their thoughts during this incredibly difficult time."

Odessa Mayor Cal Hendrick added, "Tonight, Odessa has lost a hero. Firefighter Isai Huerta dedicated his life to protecting others, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten. On behalf of the City of Odessa, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, his brothers and sisters in the fire service, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. We ask our community to join us in keeping them in our prayers as we mourn this heartbreaking loss."

The two other firefighters injured during the incident did not sustain life-threatening injuries and are receiving care and support.

The Texas State Association of Fire Fighters is leading the investigation. Representatives from the International Association of Fire Fighters are also expected to arrive in Odessa tonight to provide additional support.

Odessa Fire Rescue has already begun debriefing personnel and is ensuring first responders have access to all available emotional, mental health, and peer-support resources.

Odessa Fire Rescue will hold a press conference tomorrow to answer questions and provide an update on the investigation.
