As NCBTMB grows and evolves, we wanted to share an update regarding our Assigned Schools program. The Board made a strategic decision to sunset the Assigned Schools program effective today, June 3, to focus on what NCBTMB does best: Board Certification and the Approved Provider Program.

We fully support COMTA’s leadership in school accreditation and curriculum endorsement. Current Assigned Schools are encouraged to consider these COMTA programs, which offer recognition, credibility, and a supportive community of likeminded schools.

NCBTMB and COMTA are united in our shared mission to serve as pillars of the massage therapy profession, fostering excellence in education and practice. This partnership affirms our organizations' commitment to upholding the highest standards in the massage therapy profession.

The Department of Education has proposed a new accountability rule under AHEAD that would measure the value of undergraduate certificate programs using a flawed earnings comparison based on American Community Survey data.

As written, the proposal unfairly compares career education graduates against a benchmark that already includes individuals with vocational and trade certificates, creating a misleading and legally questionable standard.

Board Certification has helped Dustin Blackman, LMT, BCTMB, advance and expand his career in medical massage.

“Maintaining Board Certification has greatly benefited my career. It is considered one of the highest achievements in massage therapy, and it drives me to grow every day.

For example, this commitment helped my practice expand year over year — I’ve even partnered with the Chief Medical Officer at Shoals Hospital to further integrate massage into patient care. Board Certification has opened doors and reinforced my credibility as an expert clinician.”
