This weekend I'm heading to San Diego for a perinatal acupuncture conference with one of my favorite teachers and mentors, Dr. Deb Davies.

One of the things I love about acupuncture is that there is always more to learn. Even after years in practice, I continue to seek out opportunities to deepen my understanding of fertility, pregnancy, postpartum care, women's health, and integrative medicine.

I'm especially excited to spend a few days learning alongside colleagues from around the country who are passionate about supporting families through some of life's most important transitions.

Continuing education isn't just about earning credits. It's about bringing fresh ideas, new tools, and better care back to the people who trust me with their health.

I'm grateful to my patients for making it possible for me to continue growing as a practitioner, and I'm looking forward to bringing what I learn back to Evanston.

If you're attending the conference, I'd love to connect!

☀️ San Diego, here I come.
💚 Lifelong learning is one of the greatest gifts of this profession.

Happy Mother’s Day 💚

Today can hold so many different emotions.

Love. Gratitude. Exhaustion. Longing. Grief. Joy. Relief. Hope.

Sending love today to:
• mothers
• future mothers
• people trying to conceive
• stepmothers
• foster mothers
• chosen mothers
• pet parents
• caregivers
• people mothering communities
• people grieving mothers
• people with complicated relationships to motherhood
• and anyone quietly carrying tenderness for others

So much of caregiving happens invisibly.

As an acupuncturist, I see every day how much people carry in their bodies while continuing to show up for everyone else.

May today include at least one moment where you feel cared for too.

And if your nervous system, hormones, stress levels, sleep, cycle, pain, or fertility journey could use support, I’m here. 💚

Spring detox is everywhere right now…
but let’s talk about it.

A lot of what we’re told sounds like:
restrict more
push harder
clean yourself out

And honestly… that’s not how the body works.

In Chinese medicine, spring is connected to the Liver.
Yes, it helps process and move things through.
But it doesn’t respond well to force.

It responds to support.

Aggressive cleanses can leave you:
• more tired
• more anxious
• more depleted

That said… some gentle detox support can help.

The difference?
Not punishment.
Not extremes.
Just supporting what your body is already trying to do.

Think:
🥣 warm, simple meals
🥬 cooked greens
🚶‍♀️ a short walk after eating
🌀 gentle movement

If you’re trying to conceive or are pregnant, this matters even more.

This is not the time to clear out.
This is the time to nourish, build, and support.

If your body has been feeling stuck, tense, or off this spring, acupuncture can help bring things back into balance in a way that actually feels good.

You don’t need to be calmer.

You need things to move.

This is something I say a lot in clinic, especially this time of year.

When Qi gets stuck, you might feel:
• Tension in your body
• Irritation you can’t quite explain
• Digestive shifts tied to stress
• That “on edge” feeling all day

Trying to force calm on top of that usually doesn’t work.

Movement does.

Sometimes that’s:
• Acupuncture
• Sometimes cupping or gua sha
• Sometimes the right herbal formula (prescribed, not guessed)
• Sometimes it’s as simple as walking… without your phone

If you’ve been trying to push through it alone, you don’t have to.

Spring is not gentle.

In Chinese medicine, spring is about movement.

And when things start moving after being stuck all winter, it can feel like:
• Irritability
• PMS flaring
• Waking up at 3am
• Feeling overwhelmed by small decisions

Nothing is wrong with you.

This is often Liver Qi stagnation. Things are trying to move.

And what your body needs isn’t more suppression.

It needs support to move.

Acupuncture, bodywork, and the right herbal support can help regulate this so you don’t feel stuck in it.

And just to say:
Herbs, cupping, and gua sha are powerful tools, but they’re not DIY trends. They work best when they’re tailored to you.

🌍 World Health Day

Health isn’t just about what’s happening inside your body.

It’s also about:
• The stress you’re carrying
• The world you’re living in
• The support you do or don’t have

I see this every day in clinic.

People come in with pain, hormone shifts, sleep issues, fertility concerns.
And underneath it, there’s often a nervous system that’s been holding a lot for a long time.

Acupuncture is one way to support your body in processing that.

Not by forcing it to “calm down”
But by helping things regulate and move again.

If your body has been asking for support, this is your reminder to listen 💚

In East Asian medicine, we say:

“The Liver stores the Blood.”

This is especially important for fertility.

Healthy Blood supports:
→ A strong uterine lining
→ Nourished follicles
→ Regular cycles

But here is something many people don’t hear:

You can have enough Blood…
and still feel off if it is not moving well.

That is where Liver Qi comes in.

When Qi flows, Blood follows.

When it doesn’t:
• Cycles can become irregular
• PMS can increase
• The body can feel stuck

This is why I love working with patients in early spring 🌿

The body is ready to shift.

💚 If you are preparing for pregnancy, in the middle of your journey, or just want to feel more at home in your body, I would love to support you.

Happy Holi to all who celebrate 🌈

Holi marks the arrival of spring—a celebration of color, renewal, and the victory of light over darkness.

It is a reminder that even after long winters, life returns, color returns, possibility returns.

In many ways, this mirrors what we see in the body this time of year.

After a season of rest and conservation, things begin to move again.

Not all at once.
Not forcefully.
But steadily.

🌿 In Chinese medicine, this is the season of growth, vision, and gentle emergence.

Where can you allow a little more color back into your life right now?

💚 Wishing you a season of renewal, movement, and moments of joy.

Feeling a little more irritable, off-cycle, or just not quite like yourself lately?

You are not imagining it.

In Chinese medicine, spring is the season of the Liver, which is deeply connected to:

• Hormone balance
• Menstrual cycles
• Fertility
• Emotional flow

When Liver Qi is flowing well, things feel smoother.

When it gets stuck (very common this time of year), you might notice:

✨ PMS symptoms
✨ Irregular cycles
✨ Breast tenderness
✨ Waking between 1–3am
✨ That “on edge” feeling

Spring is about movement—but if your body is still coming out of winter, that movement can feel like pressure.

Acupuncture helps restore flow—not force.

💚 If your cycle feels off or you are trying to conceive, this is a powerful time to begin.

Happy Pi Day 🥧

I reminds us that some things in life are beautifully complex and endlessly unfolding.

Health can feel that way too.

Healing is rarely a straight line. It moves in cycles, rhythms, and patterns. Sometimes the body just needs a little support to find its way back to balance.

And sometimes it also needs pie.

If your body has been asking for support lately, acupuncture can help.
