What defines the trajectory of someone’s life is not the moment you receive the diploma. It’s the character you build while dealing with deflated soufflés, burnt cookies, falling tarts, and waiting for feedback from some of the most respected professionals in the industry. It’s waking up early when you’re not a morning person. It’s powering through the doubt and uncertainty. It’s the knowledge that after the degree, you’re probably going to rinse and repeat the entire process a couple of more times in the future. It’s the commitment and passion you keep in your back pocket while you build an airtight plan to protect what you love at all costs. You know it’s all worth it because you do everything with love. That’s what I learned from this girl! Mama is so proud of you!

This feels different after Mama passed away. She loves Chicago in the 90’a during my college days. We had conversations reminiscing about those days during my last few months with her. The most amazing thing is I don’t mias her with a heavy heart. What I do miss sending her photos and chatting with her about the good days. Thank you Mama for those days. All I can do to honor you right now is to hold your memory with gratitude and to share it with my daughters the way you provided a container for me when I needed it. That was probably all the time.
