In honor of Global Running Day, and as a proud sponsor of the Evansville Half Marathon , Dr. Kelly has some insights for those beginning their training.
One of the most important parts of any run is the warm-up. Taking a few minutes to prepare your muscles and joints before hitting the road can help improve performance and reduce the risk of injury.
As training mileage increases, it's also important to pay attention to aches and pains, especially along the shin. Shin splints are one of the most common running injuries and can develop when training volume increases too quickly or recovery is overlooked.
Whether you're training for your first 13.1 miles or looking to set a new personal record, taking care of your body now can help keep you on track all the way to race day. We're proud to support the Evansville Half Marathon and the runners who make it such a great community event.
