It’s always such a joy to relive these moments and share what it is that I do!
This incredible family were amazing and strong as they traversed a labor with a few twists and turns. When T informed me that her water broke, we discovered that unfortunately there was meconium present. Meconium is baby’s first p**p and when seen in amniotic fluid, can present some risks that result in a transfer to the hospital for birth. We were all disappointed in this shift of birth plans.
I decided to make my way to their house to check in on baby and discuss transfer to the hospital. Up until this point, T’s labor was slow to start. When I arrived at their home T was working hard with frequent, strong contractions. She agreed to let me check her cervix before we left for the hospital. Low and behold her cervix was complete and baby was LOW! T began feeling the urge to push.
We had two options: quickly get to the hospital and hope that she didn’t have her baby in the car or remain home and call 911 to have EMT’s present for the birth in case complications of meconium arose. Since T’s labor had gone so fast, we didn’t know how long it would be before baby was born.
We had a quick discussion of all of our risks and concluded to call for EMT’s to arrive and hang out in the hall until baby was born. IYKYK.
Shorty after their arrival, this little babe was born and perfect! We happily sent the EMT’s on their way, thankful for their presence and a healthy baby!
In this video you can see our excitement and T’s immense relief! At the end of the video you hear me ask for pitocin to help with some bleeding that followed the birth.
Thank you so much to T and her family for allowing us to be present and share her story. ❤️Thank you to for catching this moment and many others! ❤️
